The St Andrews aquarium, already home to seals, fish, and other nautical delights, has announced that they will be welcoming a group of female penguins into their family.

The penguins are Humboldt Penguins, which can grow to be up to 28 inches tall. They’re identifiable by their black heads with white borders, as well as by their spiny tongue which they use to hold their prey (don’t mess with these bad girls).

The aquarium has been hard at work on a new habitat for the last 5 months, and at last have let the cat out of the bag as to the reason why. Displays manager at the aquarium, Andrew Whiston, commented “There has been extensive work done on developing their enclosure, and it offers a chance for visitors to get really close to the Humboldts. To say that the team is excited about the penguins’ arrival in St Andrews would be an understatement – it’s been very tough keeping the secret under wraps!”

The Humboldt variety of penguin has recently gained popularity after starring in a BBC documentary narrarated by David Tennant, which the aquarium hopes to capitalize on. After all, if the Doctor’s that excited about it, then allons-y!
