Suspect in Van Dyck assault case is now in custody

RUPD released a crime alert this morning

This morning, RUPD released another update to the saga of the Van Dyck assault on a female student. Yesterday, we reported that a suspect in the case was identified.

But today we can reveal that the suspect, 37-year-old Michael P. Knight of Newark, has been apprehended and is in custody.

“The suspect in this incident, not affiliated with Rutgers University, is currently in custody and has been charged with aggravated assault, attempted aggravated sexual assault, aggravated sexual contact, kidnapping, and endangering,” the crime alert said.

The investigation is still ongoing, and RUPD, the New Brunswick Police Department, and the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office continue to ask that anyone with any information on the incident or was around the area of Van Dyck Hall at 520 George Street contact them.
