Do freshmen know about Columbia’s Adderall addiction?

‘I don’t know what Adderall is’

A few days ago, Tab reporter Jonathan Bronstein wrote about the common use of Adderall at Columbia.

We decided to ask  the fresh faced freshmen around campus whether they’re aware of the drug’s hegemonic reach, and how they feel about Adderall use in college.

Sarah, 18, Economics and Philosophy

“Talked to a couple people who had done it earlier. Haven’t seen it but know people who have done it.”

Elias, 18, Economics and Philosophy

“I’ve tried different forms of caffeine, and I think everyone at college gets a form of caffeine somehow.”

Danielle, 18, Film

“Haven’t really heard about it. Haven’t seen anything either.”

Richa, 17, Undecided

“I’ve def seen people use it, but haven’t myself.”

Noah, 18, Physics

“Noticed it used both recreationally and for study purposes, but in terms of study purposes I think it’s just a natural reaction to being worked very hard, like students at Columbia are.”

PJ, 18, Undecided

“I don’t know what Adderall is.”

Annie, 18, undecided

“Didn’t even notice it was a thing here.”

Sasha, 18, Film

“I know people that have it prescribed to them, medically, but I’m sure there are people doing it as a study drug and maybe recreationally.”

Ricardo, 18, Political Science

“Haven’t really noticed consumption, but there is a lot of pressure to get work done by any means necessary.”
