What it’s like growing up in a Republican county in California

Back home, it’s assumed you’re a Republican until said otherwise

I grew up in a small town in California called Chilcoot which is located in the beautiful Sierra Valley, just 30 minutes away from Reno, NV.

We’re a rural community, with hay and alfalfa growing, Conservatives, and cattle… That’s right, there ARE Conservatives in CA. And I’m one of them.

We all know that California is a Democratic state. What most don’t know is that there are actually more counties in the state that have a majority of registered Republicans.

The only thing making it Democratic is the fact that the BIG counties are all Democratic.

Surprisingly, I’ve gotten a lot of compliments on this shirt

That’s right, the two counties I grew up in – Plumas and Sierra county – are both about 40 percent Republican. Politics was always a big thing to my father, so I was always exposed to Conservative talk shows and Fox News (which I actually enjoy).

This is essentially what led me to be the strong-willed member of the GOP I am today.

From back home, it is assumed you’re a Republican until said otherwise. Most everyone supports Trump (or at least HAVE to now) and can’t stand the thought of one of the other two candidates.

My political statement of a laptop

What made my experience a bit more special is that my parents divorced when I was young and my mother moved to Hayward, CA. I was exposed to the polar opposite of political views.

I got the chance to grow up in a rural area and the city, meet different people, hear different sides to arguments, and develop my own views on life and politics.

I feel like this is an experience more people need to have. A lot of people associate themselves with the political party their parents are with or their community associates with.

This leads to people not truly understanding what it is they’re standing up for or its implications.
