Matty Healy spotted outside Manchester Uni and MMU as he casually walks down Oxford Road

‘As if I met Matty Healy after my morning lecture earlier’

The 1975 frontman, Matty Healy sent indie loving Manchester students into a storm yesterday as he was spotted walking past both Manchester University and Manchester Metropolitan University.

Adding a video to his Instagram story, he could be seen strolling down Oxford Road past both unis with the caption “Back in Manchester”.

He was back in his hometown for an interview with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe to help promote the band’s upcoming album, Being Funny in a Foreign Language, which comes out later this month.

Fans quickly raced out of lectures, the library or even their uni halls to meet him. First year student, Lily managed to bump into Matty coming out of her lecture.

“As if I met Matty Healy after my morning lecture earlier, are you joking,” she said.

Others cursed the fact they had decided to stay in and skip their lectures. “Not Matty Healy walking down Oxford Road where my uni is on the day I didn’t go in wtf,” one student said.

After walking down Oxford Road, Matty continued into Manchester’s Northern Quarter where he was seen filming with Zane Lowe.

With news quickly spreading around Manchester, other students raced across the city to try and find him. After filming his interview inside Night & Day Café, he stepped outside to meet the growing crowd.

First year Man Met student Shyla who had missed seeing him walking past her accommodation earlier that morning managed to catch up with him.

She tweeted she was “shaking” after meeting him. She also offered to give him a tour of MMU accommodation the next time he’s back in Manchester.

Who knows, maybe he’ll have a change of heart and come back.
