Man raped in Arndale Centre toilet attack

A man was reportedly the victim of a sexual attack in the department store Next in the Arndale Centre yesterday morning.

The police were called at around 11.30am due to reports of an alleged rape of a man in his 50s in the toilets of the shop.

GMP have praised the Arndale security team, as by the time they arrived the suspect had already been caught, despite the shop being very busy.

This suspect, a 19-year-old man, is currently in custody after being arrested on suspicion of rape.

Arndale staff acted quickly

A Detective from GMP’s Serious Sexual Crimes Unit said: “This was an incredibly shocking incident which happened in a busy store today.

“Our specialist officers are with the victim and will ensure he has all the support he needs.

“We would like thank the staff at Next and the Arndale Centre, we have a man in custody and it is thanks to their swift action.”
