Record breaking ‘Mardi Gla’: 50,000 attendees at Glasgow Pride 2023

The annual Glasgow Pride event exceeded expectations as it attracted a remarkable number of participants.


Mardi Gla 2023, the city’s annual celebration of LGBTQ+ rights and inclusivity, marked a significant milestone as it hosted its largest-ever event, drawing close to 50,000 participants.

The tremendous turnout far exceeded the organizers’ expectations, who initially estimated around 25,000 attendees. This year’s numbers surpassed the previous record set in 2022 when 21,000 people took part in the festivities.

One of the participants told reporters how amazing the event was. “The fact that so many people participated shows that we are all proud of ourselves,” she said.

As the vibrant and diverse marchers led the parade, jubilantly displaying their colorful banners and waving rainbow flags, the atmosphere of unity and pride was palpable. The procession, stretching for approximately a mile, saw the front runners arriving at George Square while others were still departing from Glasgow Green, highlighting the magnitude of the gathering.

The surge in attendance reflects the growing acceptance and visibility of the LGBTQ+ community, as well as the city’s inclusive spirit.

Participants and onlookers alike enjoyed a wide range of entertainment, including live music performances, dance routines, and uplifting speeches from prominent activists and community leaders.
