We tried Cardiff’s new doughnut shop and here’s what we thought
‘Doughnutters’ did not disappoint
Whilst it may not be the most budget of doughnut shops, it is sometimes nice to take a break from the classic Cardiff Greggs, and splash out on a snack a tad more boujee.
With this in mind, we tried Cardiff’s newest doughnut shop Doughnutters and it did not disappoint. It should definitely be top of your list for your next sweet treat fix.
Situated in Castle Arcade, Doughnutters offers a vast array of donuts in all funky colours, shapes and sizes. We recommend going in the morning as by late afternoon, a fair few of the dounuts completely sell out.
However, we tried two of their delicious doughnuts and this is what we thought.
Aesthetic appeal: 8/10
You have got to hand it to this doughnut it does live up to its name. The pop of pink colour gives it that perfect Simpsons nostalgia, and the chance to actually taste Homer’s famous doughnut. Encapsulating the pink and sprinkles spectacularly.
Whilst the pink glace icing tasted more iced bun than doughnut, it had an excellent icing to dough ratio, giving it a perfect combination of taste and texture. The size of this doughnut is not for the faint-hearted. However, at £3.50, we thought it was pretty excellent for the price.
The classic glazed with a twist
Aesthetic appeal: 7/10
This doughnut takes the win out of the two, Doughnutters take on the classic glazed is a true treat for the tastebuds. The added hint of caramel and cinnamon carries this doughnut to a whole new level of delicious.
Cardiff University student, Molly Davies, told The Cardiff Tab: “A classic glazed doughnut just elevated to the next level with the caramel addition. Lovely and sweet but not too sickly. Just right. No notes, a great doughnut!”
So, it is clear that these doughnuts need to be tried and tested, and there really is no prettier setting than the Arcades, especially at Christmas. We urge you to treat yourself and definitely give Doughnutters a try!
