Man admits to killing Queen Street couple

Andrew Patrick Saunders pleads guilty to murdering USW graduate Zoe Morgan and her boyfriend Lee Simmons

A man has appeared at Cardiff Crown Court after admitting to murdering two people on Queen Street in the city centre at the end of September.

Andrew Patrick Saunders, who was arrested in a property in Castleton, outside of the city hours after the attacks, confessed to killing USW fashion graduate Zoe Morgan, 21, and her boyfriend Lee Simmons, 33, as the pair walked through town following a night shift in Matalan in the early hours of September 28th.

Saunders was in the dock for little over two minutes before pleading guilty. He will be sentenced in the New Year.

The murders shocked the entire city, as residents woke up to bloodstained pavements from where the couple fell and the busiest shopping street in the country closed for hours as police and forensic officers worked. Matalan itself was closed for a day, becoming something of a shrine tongue couple, as flowers and messages of support were left outside.
