The full story behind the world’s most viral song and the Reddit user who had sex to it

It’s currently number one on Spotify’s Global Viral chart

| UPDATED

In the past 24 hours, there’s been one story and one song that seems to dominate my TikTok For You Page. The internet seems to be gripped by the story of one guy and his very strange choice of music for his sex playlist. Cbat by Hudson Mohawke has been described by some on Reddit as “an inflatable clown falling down the stairs” and “a mouse caught in the talon of an owl slowly dying”. While it might be bad enough to hear it constantly on your TikTok feed, spare a thought for one girl who had to listen to it for two years of their relationship.

In a post titled: “My girlfriend of two years told me the music that I play during sex is weird and a major turn off”, Reddit user u/TylerLife said he played the song “pretty much every time” they had sex and did it to help improve his sexual performance.

Since he shared the story on Reddit four days ago, the electronic trap song has exploded in popularity. There are currently 85,000 videos on TikTok using Cbat by Hudson Mohawke. It’s number one on the US iTunes Electronic chart and is currently number one on the Spotify Global Viral chart.

In an even wilder turn, the Reddit user has since posted an update explaining that his girlfriend’s sister saw his original post. He admitted to having previously played the song whilst having dinner with his girlfriend’s parents and they’ve now broken up. Meanwhile on TikTok, people have claimed to be the anonymous source as well as finding his full sex playlist.

In an exclusive interview, Tyler’s Instagram account spoke to The Tab about his new found fame and how he had sex to the rhythm of Cbat for two years. You can find out what they said here.

Here’s a complete rundown of everything else that’s happened so far:

‘It’s a good love making song with good rhythm’

In the post, TylerLife said: “When I first started having sex I researched into ways to be better as I was a little stiff and pretty much had no idea what I was doing. I read online that you can play music and match the rhythm in order to put on a better performance.”

As a result he began to put together his playlist with songs he felt “comfortable matching the rhythm” with. However he admitted that Cbat is his favourite song and that it’s a “good love making song with good rhythm”.

Unfortunately, but maybe unsurprisingly, his girlfriend was not so keen on the track. He said: “My girlfriend hates [it] and says [it] turns her off in a major way.

“I don’t understand why it has taken her two years to tell me she hates that song… To leave it for two years thinking our sex life is great but in her eyes has just been ruined by my music has left the whole situation feeling awkward and I’m a bit annoyed.”

“I pretty much played this tune every single time so the amount of times she must have not been enjoying it, when I thought the complete opposite is annoying but also embarrassing in ways.”

TylerLife said sex feels “awkward now” and that maybe the issue lies with her because his previous partners have “never complained about the song”. He is such a fan of the squeaky trap song he plays it in his head even when they are having sex without music.

“The other day we were having sex with no music but I was still thrusting to the tune playing in my head. She recognised this and asked me to stop,” he said.

The story went viral on TikTok with everyone wondering the same thing. How on earth do you follow any sort of rhythm to a song that has one of the most erratic rhythms you could possible imagine?

And now, naturally everyone is rinsing it on TikTok:

His girlfriend’s sister then showed the post to her parents

After the post went viral across Reddit, Twitter and TikTok, TylerLife said despite being “overwhelmed with messages” he would share an update on how things were going with his girlfriend. Sadly for TylerLife, the relationship ended.

He said he wished he hadn’t used his “real name and our real ages” because it exposed who he was. In the post he says his name is Tyler Life and he’s 25 years old whilst his ex-girlfriend is 20 years old.

“Unfortunately her younger sister recognised this and showed her parents who weren’t happy at all and made the situation extremely awkward”.

It’s about to get a lot more awkward because he then admits he played the song at the dinner table with his then girlfriend and her parents. “Once at a family dinner we were discussing music tastes and my ex girlfriend stated that I have an odd taste in music. Everyone laughed and pressed me to play something from my phone to which I then blessed their ears with Cbat.”

The Reddit user then ends his post by saying he’s already revealed his face on TikTok and that he will soon release the full sex playlist on YouTube.

There are dozens of people claiming to have found his playlist

TikTok quickly flooded with multiple different people either claiming to be the anonymous Reddit user or that they had found the playlist. Whilst some people dubiously claim to have found it on Spotify, despite the post saying it will be on YouTube, others have gone as far as to find an Instagram that is allegedly the same person which then has a link to the apparent YouTube playlist.

In a TikTok video viewed four million times, @nickthevirgin claims to have found his Instagram account as well as the infamous full sex playlist.

Hudson Mohawke Cbat Reddit

The Instagram account which you can see here has a link posted to a YouTube playlist via their story highlight. The playlist includes 13 songs and has classics such as Love in This Club by Usher and Best I Ever Had by Drake as well as less conventional choices like Glue by Bicep and then, of course, as a finale it ends with Cbat by Hudson Mohawke.

The YouTube account which created the playlist was created two days ago, the same day the Reddit user shared his latest update where he said he’d “go on YouTube and try to link all the songs in one playlist and share”.

Nobody knows if the story is a hoax but the song is top of the charts

The reality is there is very little way of knowing u/TylerLife is telling the truth and how much of their story is real or not. To a certain extent however, the story goes beyond whether the original Reddit post is legitimate or not.

The impact this has had on Scottish DJ Hudson Mohawke is certainly real. Cbat is part of his 2011 album, Satin Panthers. 11 years after it was released, it’s now the number one song on the Spotify Global Viral chart as well as top of the US iTunes Electronic chart. The musician has made numerous TikTok videos reacting to people using his now viral song in videos and in effort to promote his new single Cry Sugar, his Twitter bio now reads: “‘Cry Sugar’ is better for sex.”
