It’s official: Mika Abdalla and Jake Short have ended their engagement and split up. Now, Off Campus fans are doing their best to “reign it in”. Mika Abdalla has been acting since she was a child, but she’s risen to global stardom after taking on the role of Allie in the Off Campus TV show. Her will-the-won’t-they relationship with Dean (Stephen Kalyn) has become one of the most talked-about plotlines of the series, with Prime Video confirming last week that they will be the main couple in Off Campus season two. Naturally, viewers wanted to know who the actors are dating in real life. Despite the on-screen chemistry between the various characters, many of the stars who play them are in relationships. Mika Abdalla and Jake Short announce their break up Abdalla had been dating former child Disney star Jake Short ever since they met on the set of Hulu’s 2022 movie Sex Appeal, and the pair got engaged last year. Meanwhile, Short is busy working on his own projects, including a recent short film which marks his directorial debut. As for Dean star Stephen Kalyn, he’s engaged to Victoria Lovatsis. Not only have they been together since 2012, but she’s the one who urged him to audition for the role of Dean. Off Campus fans are doing their best to keep their ‘parasocialness’ under wraps We all know how fandoms can be when it comes to shipping the real-life cast members (see Heated Rivalry), but the Off Campus fans are now doing their best to avoid this in light of the news of Abdalla and Short’s split. @offcampusonprime How lifted my spirits feel after yesterday’s announcement: #offcampus ♬ original sound – Off Campus Yes, the show’s official social media pages have been pushing the chemistry between the two actors, but this is purely to promote their characters. Taking to Reddit, one person wrote, “I’m sure this had nothing to do with the show.” Another said, “I am going to try and control it, but my parasocialness is starting to activate.” A third agreed, “Hahahaha same. She doesn’t seem like the type to get caught up in behind-the-scenes drama though,” and a fourth added, “Same, I’m going to reign it in though.” Plenty of fans agree that they’re trying to keep their “parasocialness” under wraps for the sake of the cast – especially after Connor Storrie and Hudson Williams have been so vocal about the issue following Heated Rivalry’s success. Another commented, “Oh boy. I know the fans will NOT be normal about this.” In a separate thread, there is some speculation about why they may have broken up, most of it related to Abdalla’s overnight fame. “Not judging. Her life has changed so much so fast. I can only imagine what she’s thinking/feeling right now,” said one. And there are plenty of fans hoping to see Kalyn and Lovatsis’s relationship remain intact. “It might be parasocial of me but god I hope Stephen and his fiancée don’t break up esp since she pushed him to go for his role,” wrote another. They were clearly broken up for a while since she wasn’t wearing her ring during press.” For all the latest film and TV updates and hot takes, like our Facebook page.
