Euphoria viewers have plenty of grievances about season three. Why did we get no closure for any of Nate’s messy relationships? Why did Rue’s mental health conditions vanish overnight? And above all, why is Sydney Sweeney always naked? At least once per episode, Sydney Sweeney’s character Cassie embarks on even more explicit escapades. Plenty of viewers have criticised Euphoria (and Sydney Sweeney) for objectifying women, and glamorising OnlyFans. Chloe Cherry – who plays Faye in Euphoria, and used to be an adult entertainment actor – has addressed the controversy over Cassie’s NSFW scenes. First of all, Chloe Cherry criticised the realism of Cassie’s story. She pointed out it’s “not realistic at all” for a newbie on OnlyFans to suddenly start making $50,000 a month. However, she argued that the numerous explicit scenes with Cassie and other female Euphoria characters weren’t just for the sake of it, but had a point to make. Oh look, Sydney Sweeney took her clothes off again(Image via HBO) Chloe Cherry told Glamour: “I think Sam [Levinson, the showrunner] is using these young women as a vessel to show how society currently sees young women. I don’t believe that he’s trying to say that it’s these young women’s fault that all the world wants from them is for them to just be hot and be sexy and be young. I think Sam is trying to say: ‘Look where we have got to in society.'” Apparently, Sydney Sweeney’s many spicy scenes have a purpose. Chloe continued: “I can see someone like Cassie, who’s been so ostracised for just having the body that she has. Something that I’ve noticed is that women that just happen to be born with huge breasts, like Sydney Sweeney, always tend to be sexualised whether they want to or not, just because of the way that their body just naturally is. Cassie didn’t choose to look how she looks, but everybody treats her in such a specific way because of how she looks. And I guess that’s something that I always think about with Cassie, is that she didn’t choose to be born looking this way, but you guys are all treating her in such a specific way because she does.” Chloe Cherry as Faye, on a bad day(Image via HBO) She pointed out: “Why is it that when a young woman is sexual, or okay with being sexual in any capacity, it’s so sad and so horrible? It goes to show how sh*tty we are toward young women.” Several Euphoria viewers have complained that season three is glamorising sex work. Cassie is making so much money on OnlyFans, Maddy is living a life of luxury, and everything is extra beautiful. Chloe Cherry doesn’t think Euphoria is romanticising the adult content industry, though. “When I’m watching it, I don’t feel like I see it as glamorised. I don’t want anybody to watch and think: ‘Oh wow, I want to go become a stripper.’ I want people to be like: ‘Oh, strippers are humans too.'” Does Cassie need to get her t*ts out yet again to prove she’s a person, though?
