I can’t ignore these four bits of evidence that Rue will die in the Euphoria S3 finale

All the references to Moses aren't subtle

Just one episode of Euphoria season three remains (and it’s very possible this will be the last episode of the show ever). I’m afraid the evidence is piling up that Zendaya’s character Rue will die in the Euphoria season three finale. Here are the four most compelling clues that Rue’s time is up. I’m going to need to stock up on tissues before the last episode.

1. Rue’s death may have been Sam Levinson’s plan all along

Well, the very first episode of Euphoria began with Rue’s birth. Will the last one end with her death?

Euphoria is (very loosely) based on a 2012 Israeli show of the same name. At the end of that series, the main character (who Rue seems to have been inspired by) is revealed to be dead. She’s been narrating the show from beyond the grave. That doesn’t exactly bode well for our Rue.

In HBO‘s Euphoria, Rue’s narration also shows she knows things about other characters far beyond what they are likely to have told her later. Maybe this is because it’s convenient for the writers, or maybe Rue is an omniscient ghost or something?

2. Zendaya seems very done with the show

Now, we don’t know for absolute certain whether season three will be the end of Euphoria (although, the cast’s cagey comments about the ending make it seem likely this will be it). Zendaya seemed pretty certain she wouldn’t be making more Euphoria episodes way back in April.

On The Drew Barrymore Show, Zendaya was questioned on whether season three would be the finale. She replied: “I think so, yeah.”

Drew Barrymore said: “Is this to be enjoyed? Because I almost need to know the mind frame…”

“Closure is coming,” Zendaya cut in.

Er, is there a reason Zendaya is confident season three would be it?  Is Rue’s death the “closure’?

3. Ali’s book

When we’re so close to the end of season three, and screen time is extra precious, why was there a lengthy flashback about Ali? As great as this character is, we’ve barely seen him in season three until now. Did we learn about Ali’s book – in which he writes the names of sponsees who die – so that when Rue dies, Ali will add her name, and we’ll feel super sad?

4. All this Moses stuff

The symbolism in Euphoria season three isn’t exactly subtle. Rue and Ali keep banging on about Moses. The credits for season three episode seven feature a full recital of the song Go Down Moses, which was also used in trailers. Woah, do you think the writers are trying to tell us something, guys?

For those of you who weren’t indoctrinated into an Abrahamic religion at primary school, the prophet Moses saves a bunch of people, wanders about in the dessert for ages, looks out over the Promised Land, then dies. Many Euphoria viewers reckon Rue might rescue Cassie, Maddy and Kitty from Alamo, or Faye from Laurie, Perhaps Rue will catch sight of her ranch, then die at the very end of Euphoria. Argh, I don’t think my heart could take that.
