Off Campus showrunner Louisa Levy has opened up about how the crew ensured the wellbeing of Hannah star Ella Bright during the show’s intimate scenes, especially given the significant age gap between her and Garrett actor Belmont Cameli. There’s been much discussion about the age gap between the two co-stars, who play the central couple in season one of the hit Prime Video series. While Belmont was 27 when they started filming, Ella was just 18. Given there are lots of spicy scenes between the two, this dynamic raised a few eyebrows among viewers at home, with some questioning whether this was the reason there aren’t as many BTS clips of the pair compared to Allie and Dean stars Mika Abdalla and Stephen Kalyn. But Ella herself defended the show on the Not Skinny But Not Fat podcast, saying, “Not once did I feel left out from being younger than everybody… I couldn’t be more comfortable on this set with these people.” "Off Campus" stars Ella Bright and Belmont Cameli on how "unsexy" filming sex scenes really is 🎬🌶️🥶 pic.twitter.com/Yty96ZhGog — CinemaBlend (@CinemaBlend) May 15, 2026 Showrunner Louisa Levy, who adapted Elle Kennedy’s Off Campus book series for the small screen, has now elaborated further on the precautions that were taken to ensure Ella felt safe and supported. The topic of conversation came up when The Hollywood Reporter asked about the intimacy coordinator work and “the conversations surrounding Ella, in particular, given how much younger she is than Bel and in general.” Louisa explained that they had extensive conversations to ensure Ella knew exactly what the role entailed – and she even told her not to sign the contract even if she felt slightly that this wasn’t something she was ready or excited for. Prior to this, she told the outlet that finding a good intimacy coordinator was a “non-negotiable”, as they knew even before finding Ella that the cast would be young. “We didn’t know quite how young, but we knew that they would be young, and we wanted to make sure that every care and every responsibility was taken to create a safe space for our cast,” she said. She also has a background in mental health, which is helpful because we’re exploring mental health things on the show.” When the team met Ella, they fell in love with her, but Louisa emphasised how important it was to “have a very in-depth conversation with her” before any Off Campus contracts were signed. “As much as I loved her and believed her to be a star, which she now is, I was not about to put her on set if I felt like she wasn’t equipped for it,” she explained. “I talked to her on the phone and walked her through everything that was expected of Hannah this season because I didn’t want there to be any surprises and walked her through what the process of working with an intimacy coordinator is or would be. “I told her to reach out to people who she trusts and knows who have done intimacy work and ask them about that experience. I can tell her everything I’ll do from my perspective as a showrunner and as a producer, but I’ve never been in her shoes. I will never make her do something that she doesn’t feel comfortable with, but I will never know what that’s like.” Louisa encouraged her to talk to someone, and while she’s not sure if she did or not, she told Ella “not to close this deal if she felt even a little bit that this wasn’t something she was ready for and excited to do”. “That was really important to me,” she finished. “Frankly, that was important to me with everyone.” For all the latest film and TV updates and hot takes, like our Facebook page.
