Off Campus’ Ella Bright defends ‘creepy’ Belmont Cameli age gap after outrage from viewers

Ella Bright has defended the ten-year age gap between her and co-star Belmont Cameli after some viewers called for a recast.

Season one of Off Campus focuses on the love story of Hannah Wells and Garrett Graham, played by Ella Bright and Belmont Cameli. The series has blown up, drawing viewers in with its non-toxic love stories and raunchy sex scenes. However, some people have criticised the casting of 18-year-old Ella alongside her 28-year-old co-star, especially because they share a lot of intimate scenes – six to be exact.


On an episode of the Not Skinny But Not Fat podcast, Ella acknowledged the controversial dynamic.

“Not once did I feel, one, left out from being younger than everybody. We’re all such a family, and everyone was just more than perfect, and I couldn’t be more comfortable on this set with these people,” she said. “So it is funny when they say that. I’m like ‘I’m good ‘.”

The actress continued: “I came into this job and during the chemistry reads with more than enough information and knowledge and understanding of what this role required and the show.”

Still, a lot of people online have emphasised how uncomfortable they are watching sex scenes between a teenager and someone who’s almost 30 – even though they are both adults.

“I can’t enjoy Off Campus when the girl was 18 recording it with a 28-year-old man,” one person on X said.

Another person theorised that the controversial age gap is why there hasn’t been as much behind-the-scenes content of Ella and Belmont as there has been for other couples.

“I fear the reason we’re not getting these kinda promo videos of HannahGarrett is that people were making a big deal out of their age gap,” they said.

“Well yeah… a 19-year-old should not be a romantic interest of a man pushing 30. It should be shamed in real life and in a TV series,” another responded.

Belmont has not acknowledged the conversation about the age gap, nor has Amazon Prime.
