Gwyneth Paltrow is facing backlash online after being announced as the face of a luxury residential development in Israel. The Oscar-winning actress appears in new advertisements and the website of 51 Park, a high-end housing project situated in the affluent coastal city of Herzliya. Developed by Israeli real estate group Aviv Melisron, the project consists of two 51-storey towers overlooking Herzliya Park and the Mediterranean coastline. In one video, Paltrow is shown waking up in a luxury apartment in New York, going for a morning run, and praising the benefits of living next to a park. She then gets in a taxi, where she asks to go to “51 Park” and reveals the destination is Herzliya, Israel. The campaign is being led by Tel Aviv creative and advertising agency WhyWorry, which is marketing the development as having “international style and chic”. Also damn that is one ugly building.” Another said, “They killed my grandfather and aunt and this is the best advertisement they can come up with? It’s fitting I guess, the fake grifter celebrity representing the fake grifting country.” A third added, “Her whole aura gives Black Mirror episode. Don’t ask me to explain, it just makes sense to me.” Others have pointed to recent comments on her Goop podcast, with one writing, “Her hubs thinks she’s a Republican, she’s ‘pretty centrist’ and she doesn’t ‘feel anything right now’… she feels like she’s ‘completely an independent.’ “Her own words said on her Goop Podcast. She stands for nothing, while benefiting from the chaos, joke of a human being.” Over on X, one said, “Despicable Gwyneth Paltrow, earning Israel’s blood of Palestinians money. How low? They dance to the tune of the highest bidder,” added a third. “If they pay her to speak for Gaza she will gladly show up. And they’re not smart enough to think higher than social status.” And there are many comments saying Paltrow is “standing with Israel” due to this new campaign. The Marty Supreme star hasn’t been particularly vocal on the conflict in recent months, but following the initial October 7th attack in 2023, she was one of many celebrities who signed an open letter to then-President Joe Biden calling for the release of the Israeli hostages. She later posted on Instagram sharing support for the hostages’ families, writing, “To the families of each hostage whose life was stolen, I have thought of you every day for 11 months, but today I send you my heart.” Film Shrine has contacted Gwyneth Paltrow’s representatives for comment.
