Are the rumours true? The Boys fans are convinced a ‘secret’ finale is dropping very soon

The Boys is having its Stranger Things ‘conformity gate’ moment, as fans are claiming that a “secret” season five finale is going to drop and tell the story from a different perspective. 

For all its faults, season five episode eight wasn’t the worst show ending we’ve seen. Sure, it was a tad rushed, but the most dissatisfaction stemmed from the overall season rather than the finale itself. 

Plus, Butcher’s ending was kind of perfect. Still, there’s plenty of backlash, leading to theories spreading online that episode eight wasn’t the real finale at all.

The Boys ‘secret’ finale rumours explained

A number of social media posts have been going viral claiming that episode nine is coming to Prime Video, with one suggesting it’ll be told from Soldier Boy’s POV.

In one tweet that’s had more than 400,000 views, a fan wrote, “Good secret final episode drops June 7 2026.” 

Another claimed, “Eric Kripke reveals there is a secret episode of The Boys told from Soldier Boy’s POV after the events of the finale. Releasing May 27 on Prime Video.”

They also shared a link to an interview in which Kripke talks about the backlash to season five but does not mention a secret finale. 

Still, the post has received thousands of likes. Elsewhere, someone wrote, “The Boys fans coming up with the theory that the finale wasn’t really the finale and that we will have a ninth secret episode dropping next week.”

The claims have sparked plenty of discussion, with one asking, “Seen a tweet Eric Kripke saying there’s a secret episode releasing on May 27th of Solder Boy POV after the finale of The Boys. Is that true?” It’s a good question. 

So, is any of it true?

In short, nope. No one involved in the making of the show – including Kripke himself – have said anything about a ninth episode dropping later down the line. 

It appears a similar situation to Stranger Things has unfolded whereby the fans who feel disappointed in the ending are convincing themselves (or others) that there’s still more to come. 

A lot of speculation also comes from the date May 27th. As said by one page, “Amazon reveals that we will have a big announcement next Wednesday, May 27.

“Just like what happened with Stranger Things, fans are speculating that it might be the secret episode of The Boys with the true ending.”

However, this “big announcement” is most likely tied to the fact that Spider-Noir premieres on Prime Video that day. 

Then there’s the Soldier Boy POV situation. The article referenced in the rumours actually mentions Vought Rising, the already-confirmed spinoff series starring Jensen Ackles and Aya Cash, which is expected to release in 2027.

Set in the 1950s, the prequel will explore the early days of Vought International and Soldier Boy long before the events of The Boys. In other words, it’s a real project – just not a secret alternate finale episode that Prime Video is hiding from viewers.

Not everyone is buying it

Despite this widespread copium, there are just as many fans who aren’t falling for it again. 

“Who the hell is speculating a secret episode of The Boys? We did not get a Stranger Things finale. We have no reason to be delusional that this isn’t the end of the show,” said one. 

Another commented, “Imagine getting disappointed twice. The way the season went, there’s no better ending we could get than this.”

Although Kripke hasn’t commented on the secret finale claims (and he likely won’t), he did recently address the intense online reaction to the ending while discussing the incredible ratings. 

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, he explained, “I’ve gone through a journey when I first started to read everything – like on social media or online – and it starts to feel like that’s the whole universe, and it feels scary, and you have a pit in your stomach.

“So then [you see the ratings and] you’re like, ‘Oh, obviously, how many times do I have to relearn the lesson that the online world is not the actual world?’ 

“[The online reaction is] a fraction of very loud, opinionated people, and God love them. They’re welcome to have that opinion. But it’s actually not reflecting what’s happening out in the world. And once I saw [the numbers], I calmed right down.”
