Overlooked detail in Oh Father’s ball gag induced death in The Boys makes it SO much funnier

Oh Father was a new introduction to The Boys for its fifth and final season, but he lasted a grand total of eight episodes.

Oh Father, played by the stupidly talented Daveed Diggs, was introduced as the newest member of The Seven, an evangelical leader, and Ashley’s husband. Equipped with a sonic scream superpower, he had some decent fight scenes throughout season five, and a few NSFW scenes involving his wife’s kinky exploits.

Unfortunately, said kinky exploits were the exact reason he ended up dying in The Boys. Ouch.

Exactly how did Oh Father die in The Boys?

In the final episode, Ashley gifts her husband a new stronger ball gag after his sonic scream powers shattered their other options. It was a freaky moment for sure, reaffirming that Ashley is one hell of a kinky girl – not that we needed reminding after *that* Tech Knight scene in season four.

When our heroes invade the White House, Oh Father goes up against Mother’s Milk and Hughie as Starlight takes The Deep, and Butcher and Kimiko deal with Homelander.

Characters like MM and Hughie are often forced to find creative ways to kill durable supes because they don’t have powers. Think back to how they killed Translucent in season one for reference.

When it came to taking Oh Father down, he was about to sonic scream when MM attached the ball gag to his mouth. As a result, his head literally exploded.

But this moment brings up a few questions. Did Ashley deliberately give her hubby a ball gag that would kill him, or was it just a happy coincidence?

Only one thing is for certain: Oh Father would have died regardless of The Boys entering the White House. The next time he and Ashley got down and dirty, his head was going to explode.

Though funny, people aren’t satisfied with Oh Father’s ending in The Boys.

“So, Oh Father just dies. No kind of resolution to the arc they developed of him challenging his faith or anything. Nope, just dies by screaming into a ball gag. What a waste,” one person wrote.

Another said: “MMs hands should’ve been ripped apart when Oh Father used his sonic shout with that titanium ball gag on his mouth. MM was only holding the harness back with normal human strength, so the blast should’ve launched it straight into Hughie.”
