The Off Campus TV show has us all in a chokehold right now, and while it’s an excellent adaptation of the source material, there are some changes that had to be made – but that still doesn’t explain what’s going on with John Logan. Prime Video’s hockey romance series is based on Elle Kenendy’s Off Campus novels, with elements of her spinoff Briar U books tied in. Much like Bridgerton and Heated Rivalry, each entry focuses on a different couple, and the show is following suit. Season one tells the story of Hannah (Ella Bright) and Garrett (Belmont Cameli), just like the first book in the series, The Deal, although other characters’ stories overlap. Even though Dean (Stephen Kalyn) and Allie’s (Mika Abdalla) relationship is at the centre of the third novel, there have been lots of hints that they’ll be the focus of Off Campus season two. Until this is confirmed, fans are poring over the details of the first chapter, including the book changes. But no switch up has sparked more discussion than whatever’s going on with Logan (Antonio Cipriano). Does Logan still have a crush on Hannah? Credit: Prime Video By the end of season one, it’s clearly indicated that Logan no longer has a crush on Hannah, and this is one of the plot points where the books provide answers. Just like the source material, Logan does have a crush on Hannah, but he later explains to his partner Grace (who’s set to be introduced in season two) that it wasn’t that he was in love with her so much as he wanted what she and Garret have. The show tweaks this dynamic slightly by making Logan’s yearning much more obvious, but there are still plenty of clues suggesting the adaptation is building toward the same conclusion. A lot of readers have noticed that Logan only really becomes interested in Hannah once Garrett does. As one pointed out on Reddit, “He said she’d served them a bunch of times at Malone’s before, but he’d never gone after her then.” The idea that he no longer has a crush on Hannah by the end is further highlighted by the fact that Logan’s sibling Jules jokes that he always wants what he can’t have. Credit: Prime Video “I think it’ll feed into a broader point of him being jealous of Garrett in general, and this is just part of that,” the Redditor added. “I like that a lot better than the books, because he also liked Hannah before Garrett did in the books, and The Mistake just tried to retcon it into him being jealous of their relationship, when there was no relationship to be jealous of at that stage.” Season one repeatedly hints that Logan’s issue isn’t necessarily Hannah herself – it’s Garrett. More specifically, it’s the life Garrett seems to have so effortlessly, although Logan gets a new perspective when Garrett opens up about his father. By the end of the show, Logan plays an active role in wanting to see Hannah and Garrett stay together. He’s a clear supporter of their relationship, meaning any potential love triangle storyline is over. It’s time to talk about *that* kiss Still, Logan’s crush is a huge catalyst for one of the big book changes that unfolds in the series: Hannah’s kiss. @cinemablend “Off Campus'” Logan actor, Antonio Cipriano, on that major change from the book (and how much his costars loved watching his reaction)💋🔥 #offcampus #offcampusseries #antoniocipriano #tv #celebrityinterviews ♬ original sound – cinemablend You see, in The Deal, it’s actually Dean who walks in on Garrett and Hannah kissing. And in a moment of panic, she says they were just practicing for her date with Justin. She then walks over to Dean for a “second opinion” and kisses him in front of Garrett. This was changed in the Prime Video adaptation to Hannah kissing Logan instead, and there’s a very good reason for this. Speaking to Cinemablend, Logan star Antonio Cipriano explained, “Obviously I loved the scene in the book. I was like, ‘Oh that’s genius! That’s hilarious.’ “But I think it is a brilliant move to have her fake kiss Logan and for that to be like ‘Oh sh*t. I’m in. I felt sparks. It’s just the fuel.’ Dean actor Stephen Kalyn added, “It really raises the stakes a lot more for your character too.” Elaborating on this further, Off Campus showrunner Louisa Levy told Variety, “I love that scene in the books, and I certainly would have loved to do the Dean version. “But by changing it to Logan, it allowed us to play on his crush and support his story in a way that kiss doesn’t necessarily support Dean’s story this season. Credit: Prime Video “We launched Logan’s feelings in the pilot and this let us deepen that slow burn. It just made more narrative sense for where each character is going.” As for whether Hannah knows about Logan’s feelings, star Ella Bright told the outlet, “I honestly don’t think Hannah has a clue – she is completely in her own world with Garrett. “Garrett might pick up on some things Logan says, because Logan is maybe less subtle than he thinks he’s being. I love the kiss change, though. “For Hannah, it’s honestly just to prove to Garrett there’s nothing there. For Logan, it clearly means so much more. Watching his journey through the season is genuinely heartbreaking.” Who does Logan end up with in the books? Logan’s love story is told in the second Off Campus novel, The Mistake, where he ends up with Grace Ivers. Eventually the pair get married and have a child together. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Off Campus (@offcampusonprime) Even though they’re the focus of the second novel, there have been plenty of hints (including an “enthusiastic nod” from Bright) that Dean and Allie will be at the centre of Off Campus season two after the pair’s story played out in the first chapter. If this is true, we can expect Logan and Grace’s story to tie into season two in the same way Dean’s and Allie’s did. How do we know that? Because the show has found its Grace in actress India Fowler. Grogan fans, unite! For all the latest film and TV updates and hot takes, like our Facebook page.
