Seven episodes into season five of The Boys, Marie Moreau finally showed up. That’s about all she does, though. After the spin-off series Gen V was cancelled in April, many viewers were banking on the show’s main character having a big role in The Boys season five instead. Alas, this was not to be. Here’s why I’m raging that Marie has had such a tiny part in The Boys (and why you should be, too). What was the point of Gen V season two, then? Now, Gen V is a very enjoyable show in its own right. I know there are people out there who didn’t bother with The Boys, but enjoyed watching Gen Z (and got a bit confused once Butcher showed up in the post-credits scene). But a big draw of Gen V was that the story would set up the finale of The Boys. Marie spends most of the second season of Gen V digging up dirt on a mysterious project called Project Odessa. She discovers she and Homelander are the sole survivors of this scheme to make, like, super powerful superheroes. This big reveal led many viewers to think Marie would have a leading part in defeating Homelander. Like, our girl can legit resurrect the dead! All Starlight can do is trick someone into changing a lightbulb! But so far on The Boys, nobody has considered Marie as a rival to Homelander. Why didn’t Starlight ring her up while the Boys were researching V-1? Did she lose her phone number or something? I love you, Starlight, but you need a better recruitment process(Image via Prime Video) Gen V now ends on an annoying cliffhanger At the very end of Gen V season two, Starlight and A-Train recruit Marie and co. to join their resistance against Homelander. It’s all very exciting. Then in season five episode seven of The Boys, they just… un-join? The last episode of Gen V falls flat now we know we’ll never get to see Marie and her friends completing world-saving missions with The Boys and whatnot. We’ll miss Marie and the gang Bye, I guess? (Image via Prime Video) The leading characters in Gen V are more diverse than we usually get on mainstream big budget TV shows. For instance, the heroine is a queer woman of colour, and her love interest is bigender. It’s a pity we won’t see more of them. We’ll still get more The Boys content. The new spin-off show Vought Rising does look exciting. It’s just a shame that the next big project will have a different focus to Gen V, and won’t have the same representation.
