Avengers: Doomsday might finally pay off the five-year-old Spider-Man Venom tease

Spider-Man: Brand New Day may have left Peter Parker without a symbiote, but don’t write off Venom’s MCU future just yet. A new report suggests Avengers: Doomsday might finally pay off a loose end Marvel has been sitting on since 2021.

Everyone’s been wondering if, when, and how Venom might enter the MCU ever since the infamous post-credits scene in Spider-Man: No Way Home. 

If you recall, Eddie Brock and his alien symbiote learn about the MCU’s history before being sent back to their own universe by Doctor Strange’s spell. But as the camera reveals, a tiny piece of the black symbiote is left behind. 

Ever since then, there have been countless theories suggesting this alien goo will find a new host in the MCU, one of the leading being that it will latch onto Tom Holland’s Peter Parker to form the black symbiote suit.

This didn’t happen in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, but it could be a major reveal in the upcoming Avengers movies…

Avengers: Doomsday could finally revisit the Venom goo

Notable Marvel insider Alex Perez was asked about this in his latest Q&A for The Cosmic Circus, with a Discord member writing, “After seeing Brand New Day, I am satisfied that Peter Parker ended the film alive, with no symbiote, and on the road to recovery. 

“That being said, are the events of No Way Home and Brand New Day still crucial to the plot (and certain character arcs) of Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars?”

Perez’s reply was short but interesting: “Yes. No Way Home more so than Spider-Man: Brand New Day, but yes.”

Of course, this is just an insider report for now, and Perez doesn’t explicitly say what from No Way Home will carry over into the Avengers movies. But given where Brand New Day leaves Peter, it’s hard not to look back at that still-unresolved piece of symbiote.

If the report is accurate, it could suggest Venom might finally enter the picture through Doomsday or Secret Wars.

There’s actually an additional clue the story is headed this way in the Brand New Day post-credits scene. You see, Ned’s Spider-Tracker searches for Peter across Earth before eventually locating him somewhere in deep space, seemingly setting up his involvement in Doomsday and Secret Wars.

And that location will no doubt be particularly interesting for comic readers. In the original 1984 Secret Wars, Peter damages his costume while on Battleworld and discovers what he believes is an advanced replacement. 

In reality, the black suit is a living alien symbiote, which Peter eventually rejects. It later bonds with Eddie Brock, and together they become Venom.

So, Doomsday doesn’t necessarily need to give us Venom immediately. It could instead take Peter off-world and begin the chain of events leading to his black suit in Secret Wars. 

From there, rejecting the symbiote would leave Marvel with the perfect route to introduce its own version of Venom. 

Of course, it might not play out exactly like this – or at all. But either way, that tiny blob of alien goo has been sitting around for five years now. It’s about time Marvel did something with it.
