The Wicked holding space meme has been one of the best parts of the film’s release. Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo have spent most of the Wicked press tour being hilarious and turning an iconic film into the even more iconic meme that is holding space. People are losing their minds after Ariana Grande responded to Tracy Gilchrist, the interviewer who originally told Ariana and Cynthia that people were holding space for the lyrics of Defying Gravity and started the internet fad.

Ariana commented on a TikTok video of Tracy Gilchrist using the original interview audio to join in on the viral meme she created.

In the video, Tracy mimicked another great part of the interview which was Ariana awkwardly holding Cynthia’s finger, made even more comical by her huge nails.

Ariana responded in the comments: “Oh my goodness! Our queen!!!! Holding space with you always.”

The original interview was a whirlwind in its entirety. Ariana and Cynthia got very emotional through the majority of it and people have pointed out how that seems to be a recurring factor during all of their Wicked interviews.

In the infamous interview, Tracy told them people were “holding space” for the lyrics of Defying Gravity to really “resonate” with them, and Cynthia responded “I didn’t know that was happening. That’s really powerful.”

Ariana and Cynthia have finally addressed why they kept crying during their Wicked press tour interviews. “We keep trying to say it’s not because we’re just crying out of nowhere, this experience was a huge life-changing, crazy, emotional thing,” Cynthia explained to Buzzfeed UK.

Ariana Grande then added: “People think we need to go to an asylum! People think we need to be locked up.”

Cynthia continued: “We have therapists! This is good. We’re just grateful, we’re just happy.” Ariana nodded and said “this is a lot!”
