Americans tried UK McDonald’s for the first time, and they noticed these major differences

Are Americans somehow getting more insufferable?

A group of Americans tried UK McDonald’s for the first time, and while their country originated the fast food chain, I’m pretty sure we got them beat.

Americans might have come from England, and our two countries are more similar than they are different, but god are the cultural differences HUGE. From the stark difference between supermarkets, to the realisation that summers here are insane, it’s hard to imagine that some 400 years ago we were the same people – and that’s to say nothing of their questionable choices in presidents.

The group of Americans ventured to our little island to try Maccies, and just to give you a sense of how infuriating the TikTok is, here are some comments that were posted underneath it.

“I feel offended that our McDonald’s is being slagged for being better and less damaging,” one person said.

Another wrote: “This video basically summed up America’s sodium problem. Because what do you mean the cheeseburger is less salty, and so are the fries?? like damn, McDonald’s is the saltiest fast food you can get here.”

“They make McDonald’s in the UK sound healthy… how unhealthy is McDonald’s in America,” someone else wrote.

Here are the Americans reacting to UK McDonald’s.

The Americans clocked how the drinks were different in UK McDonald’s

The Americans, hailing from the land of high sugar content XXXXL drinks, clocked how the Coke was different in UK McDonald’s. They had to scroll past all of the sugar-free options to get to the good stuff, which they claimed was so different to Maccies in the States.

“They also cost more because there’s a sugar tax,” Amber said.

They also slammed the use of paper straws, so f*ck the turtles, I guess.

“UK sodas make us sad because they don’t have the sugar that we’re used to,” she added.

We have more McFlurry flavours than them

Who doesn’t love a cheeky McFlurry on the way home from a night out? Thankfully, it seems we have more flavours than our American counterparts. Amber had never seen Smarties, Jaffa Cakes, or the Loaded Caramel before.

Erm, the cheesburger was different

“It’s a little bit less salty, I’m realising that the UK doesn’t have as much salt as American food,” she said. “I could do this, it’s not bad.”

After a crack about a quarterpounder not being our holy metric system, they dubbed the burger “palatable” and a “party in my mouth” where everyone is throwing up.

They also noticed the same issue with the fries, which makes me question just how salty the fries in America are.

“They’re just like saltless potato skins,” Amber’s partner said, as she added, “They’re just sad saltless potato skins.”

They don’t have mozzarella sticks in America

Brushing past the moment Amber’s partner called mayonnaise the “mystery white sauce, I hope it’s not what I think it is”, the Americans said they don’t have mozzarella sticks in their McDonald’s.

Sucks to be them, because honestly, the constant rotation of hot cheese snacks is a delight.
