Omg, the new The Summer I Turned Pretty episode changes a huge part of the book’s ending
Conrad behaves so differently and I’m shook
Episode eight of The Summer I Turned Pretty (aka Last Kiss) has a huge plot twist in that totally changes the ending of Jenny Han’s books. I have no clue what to make of this.
Wait, what even happens in The Summer I Turned Pretty episode eight?
So, in the new episode, Belly finally admits to Jeremiah that she’s still partially in love with his brother. Awks. They call off the wedding (thank goodness). Belly decides she’s going to go to Paris, because… reasons.
Right before Belly gets on the plane, she spots Conrad sitting at the airport. The song Cardigan is playing. Belly spots Conrad, just as Taylor Swift sings, “And I knew you’d come back to me… and you’d come back.”
Then the screen fades to black, the credits roll, and the Bonrad shippers all screamed.

Nope, that doesn’t happen in the book
The third season of The Summer I Turned Pretty is based on Jenny Han’s 2011 novel We’ll Always Have Summer.
Belly and Jeremiah also call off their wedding in the book. Although, we don’t get to see the actual moment when that happens. The book reads: “It ended up not raining that day. Jeremiah’s frat brothers and my actual brother moved the tables and chairs and hurricane vases in for nothing. Another thing that didn’t happen that day: Jeremiah and I didn’t get married. It wouldn’t have been right.” That’s pretty much all the context we get.
Belly doesn’t ever go to Paris in the book. Very early on, Jeremiah tells Lacie he and Belly plan to go backpacking around France in the summer, but that’s the only mention of Paris.

She does eventually go to Spain, though. The novel says: “After Jeremiah and I broke up, he went back to live in the fraternity house, and I ended up living with Anika after all. Junior year, I studied abroad. I went to Spain, where I did have lots and lots of adventures.”
Conrad doesn’t run into Belly at the airport. Once she’s living out there, he starts sending her hand-written letters each month. Belly doesn’t see him in person for another year, until her college graduation. Following that, Belly does marry Conrad once she reaches the ripe old age of 23.
This is all totally different to the cliffhanger ending of The Summer I Turned Pretty episode eight. In the book, the story really ends at Belly and Jeremiah’s failed wedding. We find out she marries Conrad in the brief epilogue. But there are still three episodes of the TV show to go. Plus, Jenny Han has hinted the show’s ending might be different to the books. So, who knows where the plot will go now? The show could be totally different to what we predicted (although, I would put money on it still involving lots of Taylor Swift music).
