The top five food spots to take your mum in York this Mother’s Day
From fancy to casual, here’s everything you need this weekend
With Mother’s Day fast approaching, I’m here to show you the best places to go to show your mum that you love her. Whether you like the upscale vibe or are looking for something more casual, I can take one more thing off your plate by telling you which restaurants are worth checking out.
Let’s have a look…
Cut and Craft
In the centre of York on St Sampson’s Square sits the cosy yet elegant Cut and Craft. Beautifully cooked steaks and delicious shaken cocktails is what Cut and Craft does best. If you’re looking for somewhere to impress but still be within a student budget, this is the place to go.
You can get yourself a flat iron steak for just £16 along with well priced sides such as the moreish mac and cheese, truffle fries or dauphinoise potatoes. It would be a challenge to find a restaurant that balances price and taste any better.
If this alone wasn’t good enough, it’s also doing a special Mother’s Day wellness brunch! So if you’re willing to pay £30 per person (a complete steal if you ask me), you can expect hand massages, brunch and cocktails. What more could you need?
Batanga
If you and your mum are feeling a bit more adventurous, you could try out this next restaurant on our list. Batanga is a Mexican restaurant that boasts cheap food, cocktails and excellent service. Fill your taste buds with excellent flavour and Mexican spice.
Most Read
You could try their trio of tacos or their filled-to-the-brim burritos. To wash these meals down, you can enjoy £5 cocktails or if your mum is a bit of a party animal, you could try their £20 cocktail stacked with many alcohols and plenty of flavour (so strong its limited to one per customer!)
Tucked down Franklin’s Yard just off Fossgate, Batanga consists of only two small rooms. This creates an atmosphere of friendliness and hospitality that is further shown in its excellent members of staff. Every time I have been, they have always taken phenomenal care of me and my friends. I would even go so far as to say that this is one of my favourite restaurants in York, so a must visit for you and your mum.
Drift In
After taking my mum here several times, I can confirm that this is the mum approved best brunch spot in York. With plenty of vegetarian and vegan options, this is the perfect lazy Mother’s Day food spot that is sure to impress.
Drift In boasts a broad selection of sandwiches, breakfast items and cakes that go perfectly with its wide selection of teas, coffees and juices.
Situated on the corner of High Ousegate, this cosy cafe is sure to impress even the pickiest of mums. With affordable prices and amazing taste, this is the perfect chill place to go this Mother’s Day.
Ambiente Tapas
Looking for a restaurant that could make you believe that you and your mum are on a sunny holiday in Spain? Look no further than Ambiente. With three locations dotted around York, this tapas restaurant is almost guaranteed to impress.
Choose from a selection of meat, fish and vegetarian small plates to share around the table and wash it all down with a jug of sangria. Make sure to leave room for the Spanish inspired desserts!
With an upscale yet friendly atmosphere, this is the perfect place for you and your mum to enjoy each other’s company. My personal favourite Ambiente is the one on Fossgate, it has an incredible atmosphere, food and prices. What’s not to love?
Heavenly Desserts
After a long day of wandering around York, my mum always builds quite a sweet tooth. Why not end your Mother’s Day with a trip to Heavenly Desserts?
With an astoundingly long list of desserts to choose from, there’s a bit of something for everyone. From waffles to ice cream, brownies to dessert tapas. To make the most of the day you could even skip dessert at another restaurant on this list and head straight here (just make sure to leave some room!)
Nestled in the middle of Blake street, this restaurant truly does feel like dessert heaven.
So, there’s your mix of the top five food spots to take your mum this Mother’s Day. Enjoy the weekend!
