How often are the MAFS Australia 2025 cast *really* allowed to leave the apartments?

The 2025 cast have a stricter curfew than in previous years

The MAFS Australia 2025 gang have finally moved into their apartments together. Now the honeymoons are over, the drama can begin! What a relief. But how often are the MAFS Australia 2025 cast really allowed to leave the apartments? We shall investigate.

The brides and grooms can’t just leave whenever they fancy

The MAFS cast actually have to ask for permission if they want to leave the apartments. The former MAFS UK bridge Marilyse Corrigan told The Sun: “When we were in the apartments, we weren’t allowed to go anywhere. If we wanted to go out we had to ring up the producers and say, ‘Can you send a chaperone because we want to go for a walk?’ and then they’d take us out into Brighton. But we weren’t allowed to go and have a drink in any of the bars or anything like that.”

It sounds like the rules are similar on MAFS Australia to the rules for the UK show. The 2025 MAFS Australia grooms Billy and Dave admitted to Daily Mail Australia that they broke the show’s rules at least once a week. The besties snuck out to the gym and on “little spa dates” together.

The MAFS contestants are allowed out in the evening – remember in 2023 when Claire and Adam kissed at a bar? But they have a curfew.

Jacqui said on TikTok: “It’s basically lockdown there. You’re not allowed to leave after certain hours.” Jacqui also claimed the rules were tightened if a cast member was caught leaving when they’re not meant to. But none of the other cast members have confirmed this.

The logic is that the crew members need their beauty sleep too, and don’t want to trek around Sydney in the early hours of the morning just in case a MAFS contestant says something interesting. Fair enough.

The 2025 cohort actually have an earlier curfew than the MAFS Australia contestants before them. According to the Daily Mail Australia, two contestants vanished on a Saturday evening. They cut off communication with the crew, and didn’t return to the MAFS apartments. An email to the production team said this “selfish decision” impacted 15 crew members. The production company changed the rules to prevent this from happening again.

The cast used to have a curfew of 10pm on weekdays, and 11pm on weekends. The contestants were then told they couldn’t stay out past 8pm on Fridays and Sundays, and 9pm on Saturdays.

An insider explained to the Daily Mail Austrlia that the contestants are locked out the apartments at this time. They said: Their keys don’t work after a certain time, so they need to inform the house AP [associate producer] to let them in; otherwise, they will be stuck outside. ‘It’s a way of trying to keep the cast behaving and stop them from coming in and out as they please.”

The cast actually don’t have much time in the day when they could leave the apartments

Jacqui explained the couples are usually filmed for over six hours a day, and often have to wait around in between.

“You’ve also got a nighttime filming, usually, and then sometimes there’s a task. So it ends up being like a pretty long day. Because if you’ve got two filming blocks, it could be like three hours for each.

“And sometimes you’ll be on standby. They’ll [the crew] be like ‘be ready at 12:00pm’, but then they don’t show up until 1:00pm. So you could be on standby for like an hour, sitting doing nothing. So you basically spend three months waiting around with no phone, being left in a room. Sometimes they split you up because you’ve been in a fight, and they have to come film you.”

Jacqui claimed she once had to wait by herself in a room for three hours with no phone until the crew could film her. “You’re basically being babysat the whole time.”

The dinner parties take even longer to shoot. The former MAFS UK bride Amy Christophers told The Tab the filming for dinner parties can begin as early as 8:30am, and last until 3:00am.

So, it sounds like there isn’t really a lot of time in the week for the MAFS Australia contestants to leave the apartments and frolic around Sydney, even when they’re allowed to.
