Every York college as a pancake topping, just in time for Pancake Day
If you can’t choose which pancake to have, why not let us pick for you?
Pancake Day is March 4th this year, and it’s the perfect celebration for students – a day entirely dedicated to sweet treats! We know you’ll be wanting to celebrate, but what to choose?
There’s so many toppings – much more than Uni of York colleges – but we’ve decided to pair the two to help you make that decision. Find out what pancake topping your college is to have an extra-happy Pancake Day!
Alcuin – Lemon and sugar
Alcuin is the classic college to me, so lemon and sugar is the obvious choice. The most popular topping, but also fairly reserved – much like the studious residents of Alcuin – it is the go-to for Pancake Day. Nothing else could so clearly represent a college at the centre of everything on campus.
Anne Lister: Nutella and strawberries
Anne Lister is often at the top of people’s choices when initially ranking the colleges for its newly built, sleek rooms and ensuites. While still developing its reputation, people from Anne Lister tend to be bubbly and social. This sweet topping is the favourite choice for many in the UK, so it had to be Anne Lister.
Constantine: M&S pistachio creme
Most Read
You knew it was coming. Constantine rarely gets away from a college-related article without being teased for its fancy reputation. As the most expensive college on campus, Constantine students are most likely to be enjoying the trending M&S pistachio creme on March 4th. However, Constantine is more than just fancy; its extremely friendly STYCs work perfectly with this ultra-sweet (and sophisticated) flavour.
David Kato: Nutella and banana
David Kato is my college, but I’m not too proud to ignore that it’s the exact same college as Anne Lister. For this reason, it is just an alternate version of the classic nutella and fruit pairing. It’s nice and safe – you can’t go wrong really.
Derwent: Way too much maple syrup
Derwent college is often chosen for its proximity to Spring Lane and Central Hall – you can wake up five minutes before your 9am and still make it there. For this reason, I’ve chosen the most low-effort pancake topping possible. God forbid you have to spend time preparing breakfast that you could’ve been asleep.
Goodricke: An empty plate
Goodricke doesn’t exist as a college and that’s a fact. I would apologise for the lack of pancakes, but there’s nobody to apologise to.
Halifax: Chocolate sauce with whipped cream and sprinkles
Everything is always going on in Halifax. It’s by far the busiest college, with all the best parties taking place here. Halifax students deserve a busy pancake to match their busy lifestyles, and to reward themselves for getting through their third club night in a week. A chocolatey, cream-laden pancake seems perfect for these dancing queens.
James: Blueberry protein
James College is known to many as the sports college, and protein pancakes are the next best thing to protein smoothies in the sports world. Pancake Day, therefore, becomes just another day to get gains. Blueberry American pancakes are the obvious choice for James students who are constantly on-the-go.
Langwith: Biscoff
Langwith is the Campus East version of Halifax – the hotspot for every good pres. Bottles line the windowsills and the parties rage on past midnight, so Langwith pancakes need to be filling and fun at the same time. What’s a more exciting (and popular) flavour than Biscoff? Plus, all you need to do is spread it on top, then make your way back to bed to sleep off the hangover.
Vanbrugh: Oat and banana
Vanbrugh is much like James in that its students are never endingly busy. A meal-prepped pancake might be the only way Vanbrugh students can celebrate Pancake Day with their two seminars, society meetup, committee meeting and club night going on. Oat and banana is the classic meal prep combo for those Vanbrugh students still learning how to slow down.
Wentworth: Ham and cheese
This is the sophisticated pick for those students sophisticated enough to be taking a postgrad. Or you just don’t want to leave student life yet – either way, you deserve a great pancake. This college is somewhat distanced from the others, so your pancake is equally out-of-left field. A savoury topping may be a different route than the rest, but is just as rewarding.
