Amy Schumer asked Kim Kardashian for permission before making an awkward joke

Amy Schumer decided it would be best to ask Kim Kardashian whether she could make a really insensitive joke about her family. She stuck it into her new Netflix movie, Kinda Pregnant, and it was so awkwardly brutal that it made us want to crawl back inside themselves and try to forget all about that OJ Simpson murder case.

Amy Schumer made a Kardashians joke

Amy Schumer hasn’t done much acting for the last six years, but she made her comeback on her new movie comedy film, Kinda Pregnant. She made a really dark-humoured joke about The Kardashians and their father Robert Kardashian Sr’s involvement as a lawyer in the OJ Simpson murder trial, even though Amy and Kim are good friends.

She said that Kim “didn’t mind” the joke about her dead father, and was apparently totally fine with the name drop. In one scene in the film, now streaming on Netflix, Schumer’s character Lainy reads a fairytale bedtime story while babysitting and reading pop culture magazine titled Profile. “There was once a family of beautiful, beautiful princesses called the Kardashians,” Lainy says in the scene.

“And they lived in a palace that their dad bought them by defending a murderer,” her character added, referring to the time OJ Simpson, who Kim Kardashian’s father defended, was up for trial for the murder of his former wife, Nicole Brown, and her friend, Ronald Goldman. O.J. was acquitted of the charges, though he was found liable for the deaths and paid out millions to the victims’ families.

While on The Howard Stern Show, Schumer revealed that she went to Kim, 44, for permission: “I called Kim Kardashian. I said I want to make this joke… I asked if she would mind, and she didn’t mind. How cool is she? She’s like, ‘Yeah, do the one about my dad defending a murderer.’ She was that chill.”

Amy and Kim have been friends for years

Amy and Kim have been friends for ages, with Amy often having appeared on The Kardashians in the past. She helped Kim put together her hilarious, equally dark-humoured jokes together for Saturday Night Live, and the behind-the-scenes moments were aired on the Hulu show. So Kim gets what it’s like to make dark jokes for entertainment.

As for making a joke about the Simpson trial, Kim Kardashian once told Dr. Phil, “We really felt in the middle of this trial. We didn’t know which parent to side with.” It was clearly a big deal for her, having once looked up to OJ and his former wife, who are now both dead, as their auntie and uncle who the family often went on vacation with.
