Love is in the air! Here’s which Exeter halls iconic rom coms leads would live in
Of course, Allie is a Holland Hall girl
We’re reaching the end of January and that means Valentine’s Day is right around the corner. For many of us, Valentines is a time to spend spreading love, buying roses and enjoying all of the romance the holiday has to offer. Whereas for others, it’s all about getting some drinks with friends, enjoying a night in and watching the timeless rom coms. While Exeter is not always the best at love…Many of us enjoy the classic rom com and romance film. So, why not have a bit of fun and imagine which rom com leads would be in what Exeter student accommodation. You’re welcome?
1. Allie, The Notebook – Holland Hall
The Notebook is a film that never fails to make me SOB. This timeless classic will always put you in your feels and have you crying uncontrollably. Anyway, Allie would definitely be a Holland Hall girlie. She’s rich, she’s perfect and she has a man build her whole dream mansion? If Allie Hamiliton went to Exeter, she would thrive in the highest floor of Holland Hall, overlooking the beautiful Exeter landscapes and would wear skinny scarves, designer clothes and would always get a taxi to and from the club. She’s got to have the best of the best. And would spend every morning looking out of her balcony.
2. Andie, How to lose a guy in 10 days – Mardon Hall
Most Read
Another favourite rom com of mine is, of course, How To Lose a Guy in 10 Days. I can see Andie Anderson living in Mardon Hall, as Mardon Hallers are often compared to Holland Hallers so she can sing ‘You’re So Vain’ to them. Andie would definitely write for The Tab Exeter, would love a TP Tuesday and would always be the first to report on any Exeter gossip. She would have so much fun lying to Exeter men in the Fever smoking area and would expose scammers on Overheard. She’s chic, she’s fun, she’s smart – Andie would thrive in Exeter events like EGB, society balls and the races.
3. Jenna, 13 Going on 30 – New Lafrowda
Jenna Rink would 100% be in New Lafrowda. Going from 13 to 30 is the type of vibe New Laf brings – a mixture of the immature and the mature. Jenna is still young at heart and loves to have a good time. She would love the constant New Lafrowda parties, early pres and would get blacked out before 8pm on a Sketch Friday. She would be the first to suggest going to Impy for a drink, she would have a weird situationship with an Exeter football guy and she would love shopping in Princesshay. Jenna would love the independence uni brings her and would feel super grown up as she walks to Market Place for her WKD and £3 wine.
4. Elle, The Kissing Booth – Old Lafrowda
For Elle Evans, she would be in Old Laf. She’s a bit quirky and very hyperactive. I can see her being awkward around her flatmates during her pres as she only drinks pink Hooch and gets tipsy after one can. She would be the type to end up at a random flat party, at a random afters and would definitely kiss strangers on the Fever room 2 dancefloor. She would wake up to multiple messages from her flatmates asking, “where are you?” and have a half-eaten Efes kebab on the floor. She often feels embarrassed about her behaviour from the night before but is ready to make the same mistakes as the night before because she’s just a silly fresher.
5. Phil, Groundhog Day – Birks
Phil Connors in this rom com is someone who relives the same day again and again and again. If he went to Exeter, he would absolutely be in Birks for accommodation. Why? Because every day would feel like Groundhog Day as he treks up Cardiac Hill to get to campus. It would drive him insane, and he would hate it. He would definitely sign up for multiple societies to get new hobbies and would fall in love with another girl in Moberly. Anything to get out of the loop of the long, long, long steps of Cardiac Hill.
6. Baby, Dirty Dancing – Point Exe
The main reason I say Baby would be in Point Exe is because “no one puts Baby in the corner.” Point Exe is seen as a ‘far out’ accom as its by St. Davids and 20 mins away from campus – it’s in the corner from the rest. Baby would hate not being on central campus and, of course, would be part of dance society. Her favourite night out would be a cheeky TP Tuesday because she would love the salsa music, and she would always be the first one on the Chev dance floor on the weekends. Any opportunity for her to dance, she’s going to do it.
7. Cher, Clueless – Penny C
Cher is someone who is spoiled, vain but also very smart. If she went to Exeter, she would be in Penny C. I think she would love the pretty gardens, the tennis court, the catering and the double bed. She would be a huge BNOC in Exeter and would say “Ugh, as if!” to any guy that tried to chat to her in Fever room 2. Cher would always dress well, start the Exeter fashion trends and would be part of fashion society. Her favourite spot to study on campus would be Law Library and she would aways be down for a iced oat vanilla latte from Pret.
8. Bridget, Bridget Jones – East Park
Bridget Jones is a much-loved, rom com classic. If Bridget went to Exeter, she would 100% be in East Park. She’s got two men fighting over her, she’s thriving, and she knows how to have a good time. Like Bridget, East Park is the uni halls that all Exeter students want and are jealous of. She would love the views, the bed and would be down to play a game of Ring of Fire at pres and then drunk text her Mr. Darcy. I just know that Bridget would love Vaults after TP.
9. Donna, Mamma Mia – Rowe House
Now, Rowe House is an accommodation that often gets forgotten about. Although Donna is definitely NOT forgettable, I think she would be in Rowe House to stay out of any drama with her three men. Of course, she would be part of a drama society or singing society and would constantly have to avoid her three situationships in the Forum, in the TP smoking area and on Fore Street. She would always be the pres host and would always cry on a night out about her love life.
