Sorry, but if you do any of these things, you’re a lazy Warwick student

When did you last cook a meal? And are you wearing sliders? In the library?

The mission of Warwick University is to push boundaries, whether they be in the areas of academics, society, or personal development. But occasionally, the urge to take shortcuts can get the better of you, and before you know it, you’ve developed some lazy habits. It might be time to stand back and reevaluate your decisions if you can identify with any of these situations. These are some telltale indicators that you’ve turned into a slothful Warwick student.

1. Only buying frozen meals from Rootes or Tesco

You may want to rethink your eating habits if the majority of your meals consist of Tesco or Rootes prepared meals, frozen pizzas, and microwaveable curries. Cooking requires time and effort, and that preparing a meal is the last thing you want to do after a long day of studying and lectures. It’s convenient to grab a meal deal on your way to the library, but how often have you prepared a meal from scratch? It’s time to stop eating frozen pizza and try cooking, even if only occasionally.

2. Skipping every lecture because you can just ‘catch up online’

You just woke up, it’s nine in the morning, and you don’t feel like attending your lecture at 10am. What are you doing? Naturally, choosing to avoid it! You can always view the recording at a later time, after all. When you’re feeling lazy, it could seem like a good idea to “catch up online,” but it’s a slippery slope. It might not seem like much to miss a lecture once in a while, but it can add up quickly, and before you know it, you’re behind on your coursework and rushing to catch up before tests. We’ve all been there though.

3. Taking the lift in the FAB for one floor

Although students frequently use the FAB building to get to and from classes, using the lift when only going up one floor is a clear sign of indolence. It is clear that you are adopting the lazy student lifestyle if you are only using the lift to go up one floor. It’s acceptable to feel breathless after a long day of lectures, but it won’t hurt to use the stairs for the quick one story climb.

4. Submitting assignments the morning they’re due

For many students at Warwick, procrastination is an art form. You may be in a risky cycle of last minute stress and dread if you find yourself turning in assignments the morning they’re due, which is literally hours before the deadline. Yes, we have all experienced that. “I’ll start working on this tomorrow,” you promise yourself, but for some reason, the deadline arrives on that day.

5. Wearing slides and socks everywhere

You’ve officially entered the realm of supreme sloth if you find yourself showing up to your lecture or the library wearing socks and slides. Although comfort is important, wearing this outfit everywhere on campus suggests that you’ve given up on maintaining a professional appearance. Even while nobody expects you to look outstanding every day, if you’ve put together a look that says “I gave up,” it might be time to reconsider your strategy.

So, if you found yourself nodding along to any of these, don’t panic – it’s all part of the university experience. But it might be time to ditch some of these lazy habits before they become a permanent part of your routine. After all, Warwick is all about balance – between working hard and enjoying the ride.
