So *those* awful outfits in It Ends With Us actually belong to Blake Lively and yikes

It Ends With Us is officially out, and whether you’ve seen it in films or through pictures on Twitter, I think we can all agree that the outfits Blake Lively wore as Lily are certainly something. They’re an insanely elective mix of different designs and sorry but when I found out that Lily was wearing fishnet stockings under her pyjamas I was out.

Well, it turns out we have a pretty great explanation for exactly why the outfits Blake Lively wore in It Ends With Us were so fugly and it’s because most of them actually belonged to her. I mean, I thought this woman was supposed to be the queen of the Met Gala?!

In an interview with People Magazine, Blake Lively and co-star Jenny Slate were discussing her wardrobe for the film. Jenny commented: “I just really loved those patchwork jeans that you had.”

Blake replied: “Those are my real life jeans, the boots were mine, there are these great Louboutins, there’s a close-up of them when we’re dancing in the bar, those are mine. I have a few of my husband’s shirts and socks randomly in the movie, I have some of Gigi Hadid’s sweaters in the movie.”

Eric Daman, who was also the costume designer in Gossip Girl revealed exactly where we can spot Ryan Reynolds’ vest, explaining: “And we see Ryan’s plaid vest in a Lily Bloom’s store scene. It all adds such a personal touch to the character. I love that Blake is so open and willing to share her finery with us. I’m truly grateful.”

Blake Lively spoke to Extra about the importance of how Lily’s character was reflected in the outfits she wore during It Ends With Us. She explained: “For me, wardrobe is the way that I enter a character… I felt like Lily’s wardrobe was really, really important to me that it was both utility and then fabulous-glam, it was masculine and feminine, it was old and new, and it was all the things that she is.

“She (has) contradictions, but also you see how they make sense together and she’s trying to reconcile her past while, you know, making way for her future. I think you see all of that storytelling in her wardrobe. You’ve gotta really be in your skin to dress like that. You’ve gotta know who you are and have a strong sense of self.

“So, I think that’s probably the most critical thing, is to see somebody who’s not flailing or trying to figure out who they are or grasping, someone who really has both feet on the ground and has a strong sense of self also lose themselves and not realise that they’re losing themselves, I think is really powerful. I think we conveyed that. Wardrobe does a lot to convey that.”
