‘My dad is gonna kill me’: Gypsy Rose Blanchard shares her initial reaction to pregnancy

‘The way my mother parented me is definitely not the way I’m going to be’

So we all know by now that Gypsy Rose Blanchard is pregnant and expecting her first baby to be born with her boyfriend Ken Urker in January 2025.

But speaking in her first interview since announcing her pregnancy, Gypsy revealed the moment she found out she was pregnant.

In an interview with People, Gypsy shared she took a pregnancy test at her father Rod and stepmother Kristy’s home. She got Kristy to look at the test just to make sure as she couldn’t actually believe it. “Girl, you’re pregnant,” she recalled her saying.

Gypsy Rose said she was surprised because she had recently been to the doctor about trouble ovulating, and had ruled out pregnancy. “I literally had taken that out of my mind as a possibility,” she said. But her first words were: “My dad is going to kill me!”

They then FaceTimed Ken to share the news. “His face was priceless,”Gypsy’s step mother said. “He just had a big smile on his face. It’s such a blessing and it’s still unreal. They will be great parents and cherish every minute of it,” she adds.

“When they hold their baby for the first time, they won’t be able to imagine their life without their child. Everything just melts away, even when she gets a lot of hate about it.”

Gypsy then spoke about her wishes for her baby. “I’m not going to say that I think that a baby will help a marriage or a relationship, because obviously there’s the added stress. I know that realistically, there’s going to be arguments too,” she said.

“But Ken and I both come from divorced parents and one thing we absolutely agreed on from day one, even back when we were dating in 2017, is that when we have a child, we will stick together for the long haul. This is a forever thing because we don’t want our child to grow up in a broken home.

“I want to be kind, that my kids come to me for any kind of advice, just like my stepmother,” she says. “I have seen how she has parented her children — and I think she’s a kick-ass mom. She’s supportive and not overbearing. She lets her kids find their dreams while also being able to pick up the pieces when those dreams fall apart sometimes — so that’s kind of the mantra I want to live by.”
