The huge age differences of the House of the Dragon cast compared to their characters
There’s a 20 year difference between one cast member and their character
The second season of House of the Dragon is finally upon us, although there are some insanely huge age differences between the cast and the characters they play in the show. From actors in their 50s playing influential politicians in their 70s, to 30 year olds playing teenagers, almost nobody in the cast is the same age as their character.
Despite these massive age differences, the cast is so talented that they seem the same age. So, let’s find out the ages of all the character in House of the Dragon and how old the cast members who play them are.
Emma D’Arcy – Rhaenyra Targaryen
Age: 32
The character of Rhaenyra Targaryen in House of the Dragon is played by the insanely talented cast member Emma D’Arcy who is only 31 years old. And despite Rhaenyra having already seen the death of both her parents, been married twice and had multiple children she is just 32. That means there is just one year difference between Rhaenyra and Emma.
Matt Smith – Daemon Targaryen
Age: 41
Everyone is very obsessed with 41 year old Daemon who is played by Matt Smith who is the same age. He might be Rhaenyra’s uncle and also her husband but for some reason is feels slightly less weird when it’s in a fantasy show.
Olivia Cooke – Alicent Targaryen
Age: 37
Most Read
Alicent and Rhaenyra grew up together when they were younger but the two do have an age gap between them. In the books, there is a nine year age gap but the show has reduced this to just five years with Alicent being 37. Alicent is played by the talented cast member Olivia Cooke in House of the Dragon who is seven years younger than her character.
Fabien Frankel – Criston Cole
Age: 39
Despite not being the best egg, it seems Ser Criston Cole still has a weird hold over all of us. The controversial character is played by Fabien Frankel who is 30, whilst Criston himself is supposed to be around 39.
Steve Touissant – Lord Corlys Velaryon
Age: 75
This is one of the biggest age differences in the whole show, with Lord Corlys supposed to be 75, but actor Steve Touissant is only 57 years old. That’s more than a 15 year age gap between the two.
Eve Best – Rhaenys Targaryen
Age: 70
Eve Best is also playing a character who is significantly older than her in the show. Her character Rhaenys Targaryen is supposed to be slightly younger than her husband Lord Corlys and is around 70 in the show. That makes Eve almost 20 years younger than her Rhaenys as she is only 52. If that’s what 70 is supposed to look like they’re is no hope for any of us.
Tom Glynn-Carney – Aegon Targaryen
Age: 18
One of the most insufferable characters King Aegon is just 18 despite his influential position. In the books, he is 22 but the actor who plays him, Tom Glynn-Carney, is actually 29. Talk about looking young for your age!
Ewan Mitchell – Aemond Targaryen
Age: 16
Yeah so Aemond is apparently supposed to be 16 but given that he’s played by Ewan Mitchell who is 27, I’m not fully buying it.
Phia Saban – Helaena Targaryen
Age: 17
Phia is 25 years old but does a very convincing job at playing 17 year old Helaena.
Harry Collett – Jacareys Velaryon
Age: 16
There is only a four year age gap between Harry Collet who is 20, and his character Jacareys who is supposed to be around 16.
Bethany Antonia – Baela Targaryen
Age: 16
Another huge age gap, Baela who is the daughter of Daemon and Laena Targaryen is supposed to be just 16, but Bethany Antonia is 26.
