Secondhand Style

A sneaky secondhand shoot showing just what you can do with vintage clothing.

With Judy’s Affordable Vintage Fair approaching, we were in the mood for a vintage shoot. Where better to go than a charity shop?

Cardigan: Oxfam // Leggings: Oxfam // Boots: Model’s own // Shirt: British Heart Foundation

Charity shops are overflowing with an abundance of over-sized knitwear. But unless you’re 6 foot tall, slender and have a bone structure like Kate Moss, perhaps keep it skinny on the bottom half so people are sure to see you are intentionally dressing-down.

Jeans: Primark (yes, I know it’s not vintage) // Boys Blazer: The Salvation Army // Shirt: Oxfam // Boots: Best vintage

Vintage doesn’t have to be purely about over-sized 80’s dresses and baggy jumpers. But sometimes to find a diamond in the rough, it helps to be open-minded.

The shirt layered under this boys blazer had an ink stain on the back, but we decided the cuffs were worth constantly keeping your jacket on… to be honest, when its under £5 you really need to pick your battles.

Vintage clothing hangs in the balance of the right styling. While messy bed-hair can be perfect for dragging yourself to the library, a teased apart French plait can make the look a little more classic.

Gloves: Scope

Adding a slick of black-eyeliner and some shiny red nail varnish draws on the 50’s and 60’s and can help eradicate the potential of appearing frumpy.
