NBA to move 2017 All-Star Game from Charlotte, NC over HB2

It will likely be held in New Orleans

The NBA has moved the 2017 All-Star Game from Charlotte, North Carolina, to New Orleans, Louisiana, due to the controversial House Bill 2 in NC.

Some believe the bill, which has been nicknamed “the bathroom bill,” is discriminatory to the LGBTQ+ community and removes minority protections.

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver stated that with no changes to the bill, the league will be forced to change the All-Star Games’ location. The league is reportedly focusing its efforts on securing New Orleans as the new venue. However, no change has been finalized.

This is only one of the many protests in response to HB2 by corporations and social icons. Many companies have stopped expansion plans to NC cities while music artists have cancelled concerts scheduled in the state.
