Rutgers mourns the loss of student

An email was sent out this afternoon

Chancellor Richard Edwards sent an email out to the Rutgers community earlier this afternoon about the passing of a Rutgers New Brunswick student, Harris Farooq Zakaria.

According to the email the computer science major died on Tuesday. Harris was “active in the Muslim community on campus.”

Chancellor Edwards expressed his condolences and says his “thoughts are with [Harris’] family and friends during this sad time.”

Harris was hospitalized over this past weekend at JFK Medical Center where he remained in critical condition until his passing on Tuesday, August 16th.

The University is offering support services from CAPS for students impacted by Harris’ death. Appointments can be made by calling (848) 932-7884.
