What’s your best Tinder story?

What’s more terrifying than meeting a stranger? Having another stranger publish stories about it

On a commuter campus, it can be difficult to meet new people. Two decades ago, people would have had to muster up the courage to talk to someone face to face.

Luckily, we now have technology do that for us. We asked you about your adventures on Tinder.

Do you have any funny Tinder stories?
Well, I don’t know if this is funny, but once I matched with someone that had a mutual as me from back in high school. I sent her a message like, “Yo, what’s good with Leah?” I didn’t really talk to the Tinder match, but I reconnected with an old friend.

What advice do you have for Tinder users?
Start with a joke. It lightens the mood from just having some stranger sending you a message.

Quent, Theater, 23

Do you have any funny Tinder stories?

Not on Tinder, but one day my friend and I decided to check out Grindr together. You can send pictures on that app…so it escalated pretty quickly. The first match I got and the first match my friend got both started the conversation with a picture of their penises. So we decided to match as many people as possible, and every time they sent us a dick pic we printed it out. We turned all the images into a collage of a smiley face.

That’s awesome! Do you think you can send me a picture of that?

Sure, but I don’t think you can publish it.

Ugh, fine.

Do you have any funny Tinder stories?

Well once someone I just met sent me breakfast.

Wait what? You gave her your address?

Yup. And she paid for a Seamless order to deliver waffles to my apartment. It was amazing.

Did you guys ever meet up afterward?

No, but I am pretty hungry. Maybe I should hit her up again..

What are your thoughts on Tinder?

It works in Spain.

What advice do you have for Tinder users?

Send that bitch a smiley face, bitches love smiley faces.

Though I was enjoying my time invading the personal lives of my fellow students, I felt I was not living up to my creepy potential. So I decided to follow Kevin while he was meeting up with a girl he met on Tinder. It was the most rewarding and most awkward invasion of personal space I’ve ever participated in.

So why did you decide to use Tinder to meet new people?

Well, bars were getting too expensive and my success rate at bars is pretty low, and also I’m pretty thirsty.

Are you excited about your Tinder date?

Not particularly, I don’t have very high hopes, but I’ll just see how it goes. Hopefully it goes well.

Do you know of any common interests you have?

She likes Asian guys, so I guess that’s one.

Tinder in action: Lindsey and Taylor

So why Tinder?

Lindsey: I had just moved to the city for school from Long Island and didn’t know anyone here. For some reason I thought Tinder would be a good way to meet new people.

Have you ever met up with someone from Tinder before?

Yeah, a couple of times. Some of them have been really nice guys that are fun to hang out with, but most of it ended in pretty awkward situations. But the conversations are usually very friendly.

What do you look for in a Tinder match?

I’m the kind of person who checks to see if we have common interests or read the bio to see if they have something funny. I’m not really one to focus on the pictures. But I am biased about photos if it’s a dick pic. I have seen people put their junk as their profile pictures. And I’m thinking, really, sir? Has that ever been successful for you?

Post-date, both Kevin and Lindsey said the weirdness of being interviewed actually helped to make the meet up less awkward. I guess my cupid skills worked, since they made dinner plans for the next night.

So don’t be afraid to take a chance! And if you fear an uncomfortable Tinder moment, just hit me up, and I’ll make things so awkward that it might just work out. Happy Tindering.
