If Florida’s 30A beaches had personalities

‘Alys is the third wife of someone whose last name sounds a lot like Vanderbilt’

The atmospheres of the 30A beaches along the Florida coast are evident the second you step foot in the area. Whether it is all about the flashy cars and nice houses or just spending time with family, these sandy oases each have a personality of their own.

Alys Beach

Alys is the third wife of someone whose last name sounds a lot like Vanderbilt. She is perfectly manicured when she pulls up to her giant, beach-front home in her new Lexus. While her husband doesn’t get to come down to the gulf often because of work, she makes sure to spend most of the summer down at the “other house.”

Rosemary Beach

Rosemary Beach has been working for his father’s insurance company for the last 5-10 years and likes to take his wife and two young kids down to the beach every summer. He always makes sure to meet up with some college buddies for drinks and offers to pay so he can slip in the fact that he just got a promotion.

Throughout the week, this guy will only be found sitting by the water, listening to a mix of Kenny Chesney and Jimmy Buffet with a cold beer in his hand, while his wife and kids are off riding bikes around the cobblestone streets.

Seaside

Seaside is the 15-year-old boy who is on vacation with his family, but his parents kick him out of the house at night because they want to relax with a glass of wine. This boy jumps at the opportunity to ditch the ‘rents and little sister and heads out to the beach to meet other young vacationers. You’ll often find him asking the older kids on the beach for a Natty Light because he just “wants to have a little fun tonight.”

Inlet Beach

If you want to make the comparison to Gilmore Girls, Inlet Beach is to 30A as Luke Danes is to Stars Hollow. Inlet is a hard-working guy who has lived in the same condo his entire life. He’s not a fan of change and is constantly grumbling at the new construction taking place across the street. Inlet goes to the same restaurant three times a week for dinner and stays in every other night in order to avoid the “annoying tourists” during the summer and snowbirds during the off-season.

Grayton

Grayton Beach is the woman who rents a bungalow off of the beach every summer for her college-aged kids to come hang out with their friends. She stays down on 30A for most of the summer and loves to swap stories with her kids’ friends about Coachella and her days going to Woodstock. The Red Bar is her favorite restaurant, but she would never admit it because it’s too much of a tourist spot.

Seacrest Beach

Seacrest is the family who loves the atmosphere of 30A, but isn’t interested in the social aspect of Rosemary or Seaside. This family heads down to the beach a few times a year to get away from the craziness of work and school and to spend quality time with each other. The semi-private beaches and proximity to all of the area’s best restaurants makes this beach perfect for this middle-class family.
