The types of men you can expect to see when you go line dancing

There is way more than meets the eye

Country line dancing is often exactly what people picture. It’s pretty much like that opening scene from Foot Loose, except it takes a lot of practice to make it look as easy as Julianne Hough does. One of the main reasons that girls today go out dancing is to catch the attention of a cute guy in the club. However, when going to a country line dancing club, you might not know what to expect.

To help you out, I have compiled years of research, AKA going to the Grizzly Rose every other weekend during the summer, and drawn these conclusions. Next time you decide to pull on your boots and step on the floor, make sure to see if you can spot these guys in the crowd.

The sneak attack

This guy is not at all what you expect him to be. The way he is dressed says “I’m here on accident.” He is most likely wearing khaki shorts with vans and a trendy v-neck shirt from somewhere like Urban Outfitters. You expect him to spend the whole time figuring out which direction to turn or what foot to step on, but as soon as he steps on the floor, he knows every single step. Most of the time he is the one to stand by if you want to learn all the best dances.

The bluff

This one might look like he has got it all figured out. He has that “come here often” vibe that draws you in. He’s wearing boot cut jeans and he’s got mud on his boots. He might even be wearing a button down and a cowboy hat. But don’t get your hopes up, because odds are that you’ll be teaching him to dance. Most likely you’ll find him leaning against the railing that encircles the dance floor, just chilling and listening to the band because that’s pretty much all he goes there to do.

The watcher

Standing right next to “the bluff” on that railing are the watchers. These guys don’t really put much effort in, and they are not there to dance at all. They will find a spot and park themselves in it. Watching all of the girls in their shorts and boots line dance the night away. They might try to talk to you as you walk by, but they won’t try very hard. These ones might make you a little uncomfortable, but they are pretty much harmless.

The expert

These ones are hard to spot. They are often dressed pretty plainly, probably just wearing jeans and a T-shirt. But then they might offer to show you a few swing dancing moves and the next thing you know you’ve been spun around and dipped so low that you think you might hit the floor. Then they stand you upright, give you a nod and are off, minding their own business and impressing others with their hidden talent.

After going line dancing more times than can be counted, it becomes clear the type of guys you can expect to find regularly at your saloon or dance hall. So while you’re two stepping or singing along to the cover band on the stage playing the latest from Luke Bryan, keep your eyes open for these characters.
