A guide to eating your way through Lisbon

Hi, my name is Alexa and I’m addicted to food

I’m not really sure what better way there is to explore a new city and learn about the culture than eating the food. I love food. I live to eat. I even have a foodstagram which you can follow.

During my most recent holiday, I went to Lisbon with a few of my girl friends and we ate a whole lot of food. We had everything from traditional Portuguese food to Mexican food. It was all ah-mazing. To help you experience the same foodgasms that I did, here is a food guide to Libson. Enjoy!

Pastéis de Belem

First of all, the freshly squeezed orange juice was kind of crazy. I don’t think I’ve had orange juice that tasted so good in my entire life. It’s one of those things that you’re probably thinking, “Uh, it’s orange juice?” But go there, try it and thank me later.

The dessert you see is a very traditional and common Portuguese pastry known as custard tarts. I had them for the first time when I went to Macau last summer (Macau was a Portuguese colony) and these ones were simply divine. Better than I remembered.

Holy moly! So we found this restaurant while rummaging through Instagram, and it looked so ‘grammable so I had to go. It was absolutely fantastic. The first plate is a refined tuna salad with penne pasta (the pasta you cannot see in the photo). Possibly the best salad you will ever have in your life.

The second picture is a salmon and cuttlefish burger with squid ink bun. Not photographed are the sweet potato fries we had to share. I’m literally shedding a tear at how awesome this was.

Street food

During my time in Lisbon, it was Sant Antonio’s day. There were a lot of parades and celebrations throughout the day and night. As well as that, a lot of freshly grilled sardines were being sold literally everywhere. The city smelt like a barbecue, which was pretty awesome. I’m actually not crazy about sardines, but I mean when in Lisbon you do as they do right? So I tried it and it was actually incredibly tasty. I should probably take more risks. Maybe they will turn out as good as this did.
