Amid resurfaced racism on Love Island USA, producers are revamping the casting process
Two people were removed after using racial slurs, but we weren't told why
Racism has resurfaced in old posts made by now-removed Love Island USA stars, and as a result, the production team are giving the casting process a complete revamp. They are going to hire more people to dig into people’s past and things they did in public.
Love Island USA will revamp casting process after racism
After old posts made by Yulissa Escobar and Cierra Ortega led to them getting removed from the Love Island USA villa, the casting process is getting a huge improvement. More people are going to be hired, as casting for season eight opens, to dig into their past.
Casting will be more strict from now on, according to an insider of The U.S. Sun. They said that, starting next season, they are going to get some people working on looking way more into the social media presence and the articles, pictures and public things.
They’ll focus on what potential contestants did before trying to get onto the show and said: “We’re going to hire more people to dig into people’s past and things they did in public and brush out their social media and old posts to see if anything controversial came out.”
“We will be really digging way more and deeply in each participants past, and make sure that their ‘records’ are clean of racist, xenophobic or sexist words or behaviour,” the insider added, just as casting for season eight was announced.
They said that, if there is anything racist, sexist or offensive in there, the person won’t be allowed to be considered as a potential participant on the show as they “can’t have any more situations where we deal with racist behaviour.”
The source continued, “We are going to make some adjustments for the recruitment of new participants, in order to not have to deal with bad stuff like this, which has given a bad image to the show and to the brand. We absolutely cannot have another season like this one.”
