Here’s why Kim Kardashian’s terrifying robbery ordeal has taken almost 10 years to go to trial
Kim has since admitted believing she was 'going to die' during the robbery
Kim Kardashian is set to testify as a witness during the Paris robber trial today, where 10 people are now facing trial for charges of armed robbery, kidnapping, and criminal conspiracy.
Eight of the ten defendants deny any involvement in the case, which is currently France’s biggest robbery of an individual, with the value of the items stolen from Kim totalling almost $10 million.
However, given that the robbery which “terrified” Kim Kardashian took place in Paris in 2016, why has it taken almost 10 years for the case to make it to trial?
Well, immediately after the 2016 Paris robbery a manhunt was carried out, with DNA traces on the plastic bands used to tie Kim Kardashian’s wrists together leading to an initial 17 people being arrested in January 2017.
The trial was then supposed to start in 2021, however it has been delayed until now for multiple reasons.
During 2021 the COVID lockdowns meant that court proceedings were very limited, alongside which the largest ever criminal trial was taking place over the November 2015 terror attacks.
There was reportedly even fears that the trial could have a negative impact on tourism when Paris hosted the 2024 Olympic games.
Kim has since spoken out about her traumatic experience, explaining what she was thinking during the terrifying Paris robbery on the My Next Guest Needs No Introduction podcast.
She emotionally explained: “I kept on thinking about Kourtney, I kept on thinking she’s going to come home and I’m going to be dead in the room and she’s going to be traumatised for the rest of her life if she sees me… I thought that was my fate.”
