Alcohol limit to airport hotel: All The Traitors juiciest BTS filming secrets unveiled
'In the castle, you have to whisper'
Ok. We’ll be the first to admit it, The Traitors has us well and truly hooked. “Murder, treachery, secrets, and lies,” are promised and every episode the cast is coming through with the drama. It’s a reality show shrouded in mystery and sick twists and turns. So, we’re dying to know more about what goes on behind the scenes and find out all the Traitors filming secrets.

No research allowed
It could be assumed that researching fellow cast mates is off the cards, given how the show is all about secrecy.
But, delving behind the Traitors scenes, the show’s casting director told Time Magazine last year how important it is to keep the players under wraps.
“The cast doesn’t know who else was on the cast, until they all show up there. Because it’s a game, you don’t want them to be able to research each other or talk to each other or form alliances before.”
Drink limit
Lots of reality TV shows have a drink limit for cast members and it turns out The Traitors is no different.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Ekin-Su Cülcüloğlu said: “You can only drink one drink a night anyway, it was quite restricted.”
Players don’t sleep in the castle
The castle is impressive, we’ll give it that. But, it turns out its more pretty than practical for the cast.
The Traitors stars don’t lay their heads down at night in the castle. They have to be carted off to a hotel close by during their time on the show – even host Alan Cumming!
The show’s host laughed at the “glamour” of it all in an interview with The Daily Beast and said: “They all stayed in the airport hotel in the Inverness airport.”
Contestants aren’t totally free
The castle is an expansive place, but the Traitors cast members are limited to certain areas during their time there.
Parade reports that for season 2 “two new areas for the cast to scuttle off to” were built out.
“We’ve got two new spaces this year… We’re calling one the scullery, and then outside there’s a tiny little area that’s called the folley which is a little stone-covered area. It’s brilliant,” said a producer.
Super long filming hours
The world of TV may seem exciting, but apparently the days of filming are a drag.
Season 1’s Arie Luyendyk told Us Weekly: “…You’re there for so long and it’s one of those things where we probably started at 8 or earlier and we probably were up till about 12 to 2 in the morning depending on if you the traitor or not. Because the traitors had to do their thing after the whole day was finished.”
The players are supported mentally
Former Traitors star Mercedes Javid said she felt supported during her time on the show.
Per Mercedes’ chat on JUST SAYIN’ with Justin Martindale, she said: “I felt taken care of at all times,” by “welfare.”
Turns out each player has a “welfare” person assigned to them.
Time spent in the car is vital
Apparently the car rides during the Traitors are vital for scheming.
Rachel Reilly told Reality Blurred: “Any time we’d go to missions, we would have time in the car where we were separated, and those were nice. The cars were really great times to chat with people, because you’re separated and nobody can hear what you’re saying. In the castle, you have to whisper.”
Players have to sign an oath
It’s not legally binding, but it’s really important if players want to remain on the show – it’s The Traitors’ oath.
If broken, contestants can be booted from the game.
They have to agree to the oath which reads: “Do you commit to lie and deceive throughout the game? Are you willing to murder your fellow players every single night? And, do you vow to keep your identity and the identity of your fellow players a secret?”
“It’s a military operation”
According to executive producer Mike Cotton, a lot of the show is a “military operation.”
He told Variety: “It’s a massive military operation each night to get the Faithful to bed in individual rooms and get the Traitors back out to have their meeting.”
Celebs can’t promote their brands
No, you’re not allowed to shamelessly plug your brand.
In an interview with People, Sherée Whitfield explained she wasn’t allowed to wear her brand on screen.
“They said I could not! You can’t wear your brand.”
A ‘psych evaluation’ is required
Mercedes also lifted the lid on her lead-up to competing on the show.
She explained she had to complete a 600-question psych evaluation.
Plus, on arrival, she said you have to give up: “Your chargers, your watch, your passport, your money everything… it felt like prison.”
