David Murphey’s death was confirmed by his family following years of health issues. The 90 Day Fiance star was in a relationship with Lana on the show, but has she said anything and what’s happened?
90 Day Fiance followed David and Lana’s relationship up until they met in Ukraine and eventually revealed their engagement, which they called off. David sadly now passed away at home on December 11.
David Murphey died of heart-related issues
David Murphey died of natural causes at the age of 66 on December 11, while at home in Las Vegas, Nevada. A coroner has ruled that the cause of death was heart-related issues.
A Clark County, Nevada, spokesperson told TMZ that cardiac arrhythmia and hypertensive cardiovascular disease contributed to Murphey’s sudden passing. He had a history of pulmonary embolism.
The health issue occurs when a blood clot gets stuck in an artery in the lung and creates a blockage. His family wrote that he’d been “experiencing health issues over the last several years.”
David’s family wrote: “He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and fans. David has survived by his two sisters and his cat Gamera. The family asked for privacy during this difficult time.”
Murphey’s family also noted his “fierce love for cats,” saying he “always made an effort to adopt cats and give them a good loving home.” They are now asking people to donate to the Animal Foundation.
He spoke about his health struggles
David revealed he had blood clots in his lungs and had been prescribed blood thinners, but didn’t see a reason to visit a cancer clinic yet. “They don’t know if it’s cancer yet,” Murphey said on an Instagram Live.
In March 2023, he said, “I’ve been ill, basically.” David explained at the time that he had been “in and out of the hospital” for almost three months, noting that his “liver is not working right.”
He added that his gallbladder “has to come out,” while claiming that his doctors thought he had “acute Hepatitis” and “something going on” with his pancreas and kidneys and two blood clots in his lungs.
Lana and David broke up in 2021
Lana hasn’t been active on social media for ages, but we do know she and David called off their engagement in 2021. He proposed to her at the airport after meeting her in Ukraine.
He also revealed he had proposed to women before Lana: two women in America and two in Ukraine. Eventually, David said while he and Lana were engaged, they were not together as of three years ago.
They had failed to meet up multiple times and by November 2021, Lana revealed they had broken up. Back in February that year, David had admitted his relationship with Lana was complicated.
In 2022, David said of their split on 90 Day Diaries: “She thought that, ‘Well, now we’re engaged, you can help me do the things you promised,’ like, get her some English lessons, move her into an apartment.”
“Part of my conditions for doing that was to get her off the [dating] website and she didn’t, so I didn’t offer any of those bonuses, so four months into our engagement, we stopped communicating,” he added.
