Emma Willis was absolutely convinced her now-husband, Matt, was breaking up with her during a trip to Italy. That was until he grabbed a box from his pocket and changed her life forever.
Love is Blind hosts, Emma and Matt Willis, are leading the way as singletons date from little pods. The Netflix duo have been married since 2008, but their relationship hasn’t always been easy.
Emma thought Matt was leaving her
Emma Willis recalled the moment Matt proposed to her during a trip to Venice, Italy, in 2007. She told The Telegraph, “It was my birthday and he kept wanting to go on walks down little canals.”
She added how that wasn’t Matt’s style, adding, “He went really quiet and I actually thought he was going to finish with me. Then we got to the Rialto Bridge and we got to the top and he looked at me.”
During Matt’s addiction issues, Emma vowed to stay with him during the hardships but didn’t think they would stay together. Despite her previous doubts, she is still “madly in love” with her husband.
Matt got down on one knee
During a trip to Venice, Matt and Emma got to the top of the Rialto Bridge before he “pulled this box out of his pocket.” Emma said, “He went to kind of drop on one knee and I just went, ‘Don’t you dare’.”
Despite her protests, Matt proposed right there. She claimed that he seemed so nervous she had no idea he was about to ask her to marry him. Then, one year later, they married in a star-studded ceremony .
Going on to have three children, Isabelle, Ace and Trixie, Emma and Matt renewed their vows in 2018 to celebrate their 10th wedding anniversary and were wed by TV host, Stephen Mulhern.
Love is Blind duo dated for three years
Emma and Matt tied the knot in 2008 and have been together ever since. They recently celebrated their 16th wedding anniversary since saying their vows, but before they got married, they dated for three years.
They first met in 2004, a year after Busted released its second studio album. At the time, she was an MTV presenter who interviewed the band, which Matt plays as a drummer for.
The two bumped into each other for a second time behind the scenes during an episode of Shopping With Keith Lemon. Emma recalls him walking past and thinking that he was “quite cute,” per OK.
The couple later met again through mutual friends, which was the first occasion they had been together outside work. Emma has admitted there was “a bit of smooching” before she passed on her number.
Matt apparently waited three days to call her back!
