If you’ve already finished The Gentlemen season two, you’ll be pleased to know Eddie Horniman’s criminal career is nowhere near over, as Netflix has officially renewed the Guy Ritchie series for season three. So, what exactly do we know about The Gentlemen season three? Well, Theo James has already teased where Eddie is heading, while Guy Ritchie has promised that the show is going to keep expanding. Netflix confirmed the renewal in August, before season two had even premiered. Guy Ritchie said that there was basically no question that the story should continue. “The ambition of The Gentlemen has accelerated, the world has expanded, and the consequences carry weight,” he said when the renewal was announced. He added, “A third season felt inevitable, and I’m looking forward to pushing the boundaries of it further.” Eddie is going to get even darker Credit: Netflix By the end of season two, Eddie is a very different person from the reluctant aristocrat we met at the start of the series. And Theo James has basically confirmed that this darker version of Eddie is going to continue. James said Eddie is now “on a path to surpass Bobby” as a drug lord. But it’s not just about becoming more powerful. James said he wants the next season to keep exploring how much Eddie has actually lost himself along the way. He also described Eddie as moving into “rich and problematic darkness and moral quandary”. James has also been pretty open about Eddie’s transformation. He said that season two was about exploring “privilege, power” and the “erosion of empathy” that can come with it. “It often happens with kings or leaders of religious cults,” James told The Hollywood Reporter. “They kind of start off in a version of trying to help, but by the end, power degrades their sense of self so much that they become poisoned by it and become numb to violence and everything that happens around them.” James said Eddie is somewhere between “a vaguely good person” and “a complete monster”, which leaves loads of room for the character to get even more ruthless. The world is going to get much bigger Credit: Netflix Theo James revealed that season three will expand the world further, with the story moving into “lots of different countries and new countries”. “I won’t spoil it because it’s a big part of the storyline,” he said, teasing that the show will be in “a very different cinematic planet”. That fits with what we’ve already seen from the series, with season two taking Eddie and Susie’s operation outside the UK and into Italy. And as for Eddie and Susie, don’t expect everything to suddenly become romantic. James has previously said that their relationship was always inspired by Moonlighting. “Two people who kind of are in love, but never quite get together”. “They’re the other’s greatest ally,” James explained. “But they are also heading to a path where one of them has to usurp the other.” James also said there is a “sadness” to their relationship because “maybe they would, but ultimately they probably never can”. So when is The Gentlemen season three coming out? Credit: Netflix There’s no official release date yet. But the good news is that the wait could be shorter than the gap between the first two seasons. James said the cast and creative team are aware that they don’t want another huge break. He joked, “F**k, we need to really get this s**t together before we start filming.” He added, “It’s happening very soon because I think we’re also cognizant of the fact that nowadays you don’t want massive lulls.” James also explained, “There was a large break between season one and two. I think we don’t want to be in that position again.” And with season three already renewed and James saying production is happening “very soon”, it sounds like Eddie Horniman’s next move might not be all that far away.
