Explaining Eddie and Susie’s season 2 relationship as The Gentlemen star talks ‘endgame’

*Warning: Spoilers ahead for The Gentlemen season two*

After two seasons of undeniable sexual tension, it’s no surprise so many The Gentlemen fans can’t help but ship Eddie Horniman (Theo James) and Susie Glass (Kaya Scodelario).

Season two of Guy Ritchie’s spinoff series has landed on Netflix, taking place a year after the events of the first chapter. This time round, Eddie and Susie are firmly in business together, with their criminal empire growing – but between rising ambition and the danger that comes with it, their partnership is tested like never before. 

Beneath all the violence, drug deals and increasingly questionable decisions, their chemistry is still very much there. After two seasons of lingering looks and work-spouse energy, surely something has to give eventually?

Are Susie and Eddie endgame in The Gentlemen season 2?

In short, absolutely not. Not only do they not get together in the second season of the Netflix series, but both of them actually pursue relationships with other people.

Susie reconnects with Joe Green (Tyler Conti), someone from her past who becomes both a romantic and business interest as she attempts to build something away from her father, Bobby Glass (Ray Winstone). 

Their relationship doesn’t exactly end happily, though. Susie discovers Joe has been lying to her and ultimately chooses business over romance, sending him back to Vargas in Peru.

Eddie, meanwhile, grows close to Italian aristocrat Bella (Benedetta Porcaroli), and their relationship is far more serious. He proposes to her after surviving a brutal beating ordered by Bobby, and the pair actually get married in Italy.

But just hours after their wedding, Bella is killed when the seaplane taking her to their honeymoon explodes in front of Eddie.

By the finale, Eddie and Susie have therefore both lost their respective love interests and find themselves back at each other’s side. Despite everything that’s happened between them, they end the season arguably closer than ever – just still not romantically involved.

As lead writer Matthew Read told Netflix’s Tudum, despite everything that’s happened between them, “their affection and connection always comes through.” He added that they’re “probably closer than ever at the end of season 2.”

And while they’re not together right now, Susie star Kaya Scodelario isn’t ruling it out.

In a conversation with Cosmopolitan, Scodelario said, “Her relationship with Eddie has evolved from this kinship, a purely business thing, into something deeper and more interesting. 

“It was important to unlock whether she feels protective of him in a personal way or purely in a business sense… She sees something in him that’s extremely unique.”

Scodelario pointed out that they work really well together, something Susie hasn’t encountered with these kinds of aristocrats before. 

“He sees in her what she wishes her father could see in her. Their work wife-work husband chemistry is really strong,” she continued. 

When asked if Eddie and Susie could be “endgame”, Scodelario replied, “I really don’t know, and that’s what I love about it. I think it’s a lot more complicated than that. 

“Things take quite a darker turn. They don’t have time to go out on dates or pause everything that’s going on to talk about the puppies that they had growing up. 

“They both are really aware that they do have chemistry, but they’re both very focused on their missions and that’s their endgame at the moment. But who knows?”

So you’re saying there’s a chance?!

Whether it happens or not, the good news is The Gentlemen isn’t over, as Netflix has officially renewed the show for a third season. 

There’s currently no release date or confirmation of exactly where Eddie and Susie’s relationship will go next, so in the meantime, we’ll have to make do with TikTok edits.
