Ted Lasso is back and better than ever, but the season four premiere has rubbed fans up the wrong way for a very specific reason. For a very long time, we assumed Apple TV’s sports dramedy was done and dusted. The season three finale wrapped up the story, ending with Lasso (Jason Sudeikis) returning to Kansas City to spend more time with his family. But in 2024, everything changed when the writers gathered to brainstorm ideas. Rather than simply revisiting AFC Richmond’s men’s team, they decided to take the show in a completely new direction by introducing a women’s side. That brings us to Ted Lasso season four, which dropped episode one, ‘Home’, on Wednesday. We catch up with Ted as he settles into life back in Kansas before Rebecca (Hannah Waddingham), Higgins (Jeremy Swift), and Keeley (Juno Temple) show up. While the gang’s return has been warmly received, fans all seem to have the same complaint about the premiere. Why Ted Lasso fans aren’t happy with the season 4 premiere The main issue is that Apple TV only dropped one episode for the premiere. While no one was expecting it to pull a Netflix and drop the entire season at once, given the three-year wait, many had hoped for at least a two-episode launch. Others felt the opener simply wasn’t substantial enough to stand on its own after such a long break. Taking to Reddit, one wrote, “Really needed to get two episodes for the first week. Episode 1 felt like 1a.” “Absolutely agree with that. Or this episode could have been 15 mins longer,” said another, before noting the fact that the entire episode was spent in Kansas City. “Like I do understand they probably wanted to keep the episode contained in KC and the surrounding area but would have been nice to have seen Richmond in some shape or form,” they added. A third agreed, “This is like the one time I would want a two episode premiere,” and a fourth chimed in, “Agree, what I love is that the story doesn’t feel forced. The vibes are all the way back and I am so sad they didn’t include the next episode because it would have fit perfectly here.” “I am genuinely upset they did not put at least two,” wrote a fifth. “And with all the season 3 episodes being 75 minutes, at least, this is the ONE they actually could have made longer.” “Right? Possibly Rebecca and crew making it home and they see a message from Ted saying he will take the job,” another commented. “Guess that might be next week.” Thankfully, there will be no hiatuses or fluctuating release times for the rest of season four.
