Following the tragic news that Spider-Man star Mary Rivera has died at age 82, her relatives have revealed a bittersweet comment she made before her death after starring in No Way Home. Rivera, who played Ned Leeds’ (Jacob Batalon) Lola in the 2021 Marvel movie, died on April 15 in Honolulu, Hawaii, after suffering a stroke. A family member confirmed the news to TMZ, saying they were told by doctors that her condition was extremely serious after she fell into a coma, and that her prognosis would not be good should she wake up. The family ultimately made the difficult decision to remove her from life support. A celebration of her life was held in Hawaii in June. The relative said that her loved ones had urged her to audition for Spider-Man: No Way Home, and it went on to become one of her proudest achievements. She was said to be extremely proud of her role, a sentiment that was also reflected in her obituary. “Mary Egida Rivera, 82 of Mililani passed away peacefully on April 15, 2026, in Honolulu. She was born on June 2, 1943, in Iloilo, Philippines to the late Vicente and Felicia Egida,” it reads. “Mary was a retired Missionary for the church. She was also cast in the last Spiderman movie, Spiderman: No Way Home, as the Filipino grandmother, she was very proud of this accolade. “Mary is survived by her husband, Alejandro Rivera; children, Carmela Jones (Jay), Paul Rivera (Leilani), Edwin Rivera, Angela Kelly (Jaime); 11 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.” Tributes from loved ones continue to pour in, with one writing on the obituary page, “Tita Mary, As my mentor and colleague, you will be missed tremendously. My deepest and most heartfelt sympathies go out to the Rivera family during this difficult time.” Her daughter, Carmela, wrote, “Love you, miss you Nanay.
