The American Horror Story season 13 finale has broken a new record as the lowest rated episode in the show’s history. But in a separate interview, Jessica Lange had nothing but praise for Ryan Murphy and her experience returning to the series. Season 13 episode 13 is ironically titled ‘Devil of a Good Time’ – unfortunately, it was anything but. There were some notable highlights through the 13th chapter of Murphy’s horror series. The cinematography and costumes were gorgeous as ever, and the cast performances were excellent. But, for the most part, the writing let it down. As one fan wrote on Reddit, “The writing made the whole season irredeemable for me.” This may just be the worst show ever made https://t.co/mSRMA3XLhb — AJ (@AjepArts) November 2, 2026 Another said, “The finale was horrendous to me, I have no clue what they were trying to do. Vivian’s birth scene in MH killed her after a full term pregnancy, Madison visibly bleeds and her bones break and she’s fine within minutes. Utter nonsense.” “AHS Season 13 was possibly the worst season of any TV show I’ve ever watched,” added a third, to which a fourth agreed, “The finale is shockingly bad. I was in awe of its awfulness.” The conversation is much the same over on TikTok. It’s so bad that the finale now has a 2.4/10 score on IMDb, making it the lowest rated American Horror Story episode in history. And while Lange hasn’t specifically addressed the backlash, she has spoken about her experience on the latest chapter of the show, and she still appreciates Murphy’s vision. In a conversation with Obsessed, the actress explained, “That was great just to be able to reprise those four characters, because they were very baroque, bigger than life, you know, overblown and great to do.” Speaking about the rest of the returning cast, Lange continued, “What’s great about it is that everybody embraced it. I mean, look at the characters Kathy Bates played. I mean, the Bearded Lady, Madame LaLaurie… Sarah Paulson played Siamese twins. I mean, it was wild. So you grow to love the actors because everybody’s just taking a shot.” Credit: FX In a separate interview with Rolling Stone, Lange spoke about Murphy, saying, “I adore Ryan. We don’t see each other often, but when we do – [like when] he directed the first episode of this season – [it’s] great to be around him again. I love the way he directs. He’s an amazing force.” As for whether she sees any of the memes online, it’s a hard no. “Gratefully, I’m not on any social media,” she said. “So unless somebody makes a point of sending me an Instagram meme, I’m not aware of it. I don’t even understand social media, so I’m not the right person to ask.” For all the latest film and TV updates and hot takes, like our Facebook page.
